Most things really.
I could have a discussion about any genre of music really as long as the music in that genre interests me somewhat, so a discussion about the top 40 is a no no. I was actually having a discussion about metal with a guy the other night and I haven't listened to it in ages.

my favourite and most commonly used one nowadays is..
Them: "What's music you into then?"
Me: "Weight"
Them: "What?"
Me:"Just weight."
Me: "...And also UK Funky and Garage!"

I think the answer: a bit of everything, is proper cliche but that kinda sums it up for me if I want to keep the convo unspecific.
Obviously i'm not into a bit of everything, that would be ridiculous as no one is into a bit of everything.
I'm into bass in a big way; from old funk tunes with a sick bass riff to popular hip hop, through varying styles of house to deep rolling dubstep. But that would put people off if I said it like that so I just respond, 'a bit of everything'.

Not me because I'm not image conscious enough to think it matters what people think of my taste.

It's not that people are embarrassed by the dubstep they listen to, it's what the other person will think they are into whenever they say they like dubstep. They aren't going to think "Aww nice, he's into Mala and Burial", they are going to think "Fuck me that tit likes mid range ear rape shit that made my dog go deaf".

I know I do. 1.It has been co-opted by people and music that I don't listen to or identify myself with,
2.I've grown kinda tired of the "dubstep" (proper dubstep, not brostep) sound and now I listen mostly to the stuff that is on the fringe of what can be called "dubstep". I feel like most of the talent has moved on as well, it's important to keep things fresh and moving. and
3. I really could care less about claiming a word, let the brostep kids have it and rave about their "filthy dub".

If I say I dj and play dubstep I then go on to describe what style I play. Is that so hard?

I always say just anything that's good, but I mostly listen to rock, metal, dubstep, that kind of thing. I'm not ashamed to say it because half of my friends have never even heard of it! (They're not the brightest pennies in the light bulb...)

Brostep.
I dunno really, I guess I would say dubstep & drum and bass. Garage... well now I love garage, but it's not so much that it's an embarrassing word, if the fact they just think 'Flowers' & 'Sorry' etc. so I tend to avoid that one. Don't wanna confuse people with 'future' garage

Yeah mate dubstep's cool. Kinda prefer tech house these days. Gnome sayin'
