History of dubstep??

Post by misskatiemo » Tue Oct 04, 2011 10:05 pm

OK. So SPIN came out with their dubstep 101 article last week and I got to thinking that I've yet to see a "history of dubstep" thing exist online - there are videos and books (I think I remember a book?) - but what about like, an interactive timeline and notes about the history with video interview call-outs and a nice write-up?

Does anything like that exist anywhere online, and if so, where?

*edit - there's obvs the sticky in this forum, but i'm looking for stuff outside DSF that people who might want to know about the genre would happen upon*

At first there was only Skrillex. You see he is the inventor. Then we have the people like Skream and Benga, but their WUBs arent good enough. Then there is Digital Mystiks, but my apple earbuds don't have bass, so I dont listen to them often.

Tempa Records put out a CD called "history of dubstep". Along with the CD came a booklet and chart written by Blackdown/ Martin Clark. It encapsulates the FWD/Tempa spectrum of the history. The chart is really important, but obviously, tempa owns the copyright for it, so it can't be online here.

There are at least two historical/book projects in the works right now. I can't say any more than that at the moment. DSF will have something out next year about our perspective on the history. As with any genre of music with more than a decade behind it, theres bound to be different perspectives. The history of jungle for example, can be told a dozen times, from a dozen perspectives.
