Favourite track from Bristol?

Post by pete_bubonic » Wed Apr 03, 2013 3:02 pm

I've been listening to a lot of local stuff recently, Massive Attack, Portishead (counts), Young Echo, Pinch, Pev, Appleblim, Outboxx, Julio Bashmore, Roni Size, Dj Die, the list goes on and on.

And I was having a little internal debate of what my favourite was. I think probably 'Angel' or maybe 'Unfinished Symphony' by Massive Attack. But if we are to keep strictly Dubstep related, I'm struggling.

Love Quwalli (which I will misspell forever) by Pinch, The Grind from Pev, Vansam by Appleblim, Tehran by Kahn, Gully Brook Lane by Joker, Sushi Brain from Headhunter, Phoenix by Hyetal, Gatekeeper's Let Go. There's too many stone cold classics. So lets play a game. You get to nominate one with an accompanying youtube video so we all can hear the greatness. You can mention as many as you like because it'll trigger off memories for everyone, BUT ONLY NOMINATE ONE (mainly because multiple YT links on one page will freeze the forum).

I think imma have to go with with the majestic Roll with the Punches from Peverelist:

I make music as Forsaken, you can DL all my unreleased (and a couple released) bits here.

3kout was one of those first ones that made me like the tear-out side of this sound too. Big up Jakes.

initially decided to go with jakes - in the place to be, so i did't look like i was trying to brown nose pete bubonic too much by constantly linking taiko riddim.

good shout by flint33, punisher was the tune that got me into dubstep in the first place, after hearing it on the sacred symbols of mu compilation.

my favourite tune from any genre would probably be something off dope dragon. most likely mask & gang related - bass is rollin'.

eventually realised i should have went with this in the first place.

bruv, that's a fucking impossible task.

anyway, probably this

edit: a honorable mention to these tunes (all dubstep - ish) - trying to avoid what's already been posted

Jakes - 3kout
kind of nostalgic value for me, back when i was just discovering dubstep, this was the tune i always went back to in Joker's mix on Generation Bass, as i did with Haunted on dubstep warz and couple of other tunes in other mixes. Never heard anything like those wobs before that

Arkist - Fill your coffee
Smooth and relaxed, is one of those almost perfect tunes for me

Kahn - Illy
Beautifully blending the dreamy bits and the intense stuttering riddimz. one of Kahn's best bits in my opinion.

Forsaken - Taiko Riddim
This is just kick ass and you know it Pete, be proud

Pinch - Qawwali VIP
Stone cold, this tune is THE dubstep in my opinion. It just has it written all over it. (and that riser...)

Komonazmuk - Dance too
You just get sucked into this

Arkist & Kidkut - Vanilla Imitate
Too good...

Guido - Orchestral Lab
Very fitting name in my opinion. I could imagine some of those muscian mechanical toys playing that, and i definitely mean it in good

Joker - Holly Brook Park
Gangsta

i'll stop here

Close second is Headhunter - Sex at the Prom

Also is toasty from bristol ? If so then Angel wins.

Rob Smith - B Line Fi Blow
Pev - Roll With The Punches
Kahn - Like We Used to
RSD - Pretty Bright Lights
Appleblim & Peverelist - Circling

Tough to pick just one, all of those are classics for me.

Pretty sure Eliphino is originally from Leeds but lives in London. His Yeah Maybe parties used to be at The Alibi.

this was one of the first dubstep tunes i heard and one of my first vinyl purchases. It might not be his most popular track, but for me it will always be the one i think

Gemmy - Maroon Chant
Vex'd - Gunman (theyre originally from london i think, but i think they released tunes when in bristol)
Pinch - Chamber Dub
Kahn - Gun Talk remix
Joker & Ginz - Purple City

Think Toasty was a Londoner.

Jakes made this tune which I dont think saw a release called 3:29 (or some number combo) which was fucking sick. Guess it was a proto 3kout.

Utter classic, if I was going in on my DnB from Bristol though, there'd be too many to mention, Felony, Suv, Die, Krust, Tech Itch, Dylan, Mask, Smith and Mighty, Dazee, Ruffnek ting, Breakbeat Culture, Breakbeat Era... Guess it's the same with Dubstep over the last 10 years.
I make music as Forsaken, you can DL all my unreleased (and a couple released) bits here.
