Small question...

Does a producer see more money per track from a digital download or from a vinyl release?

it depends wot it is fam.

if u want the djs to keep on pushing vinyl. then its vinyl. but understand that vinyl has its up and downs. know the level.

oil is running out so u r being lead to believe u need oil. when theres the next level... its all going digital. so if u want to bring in a certain crowd to make them "realise" u got to show them with one. while showing the others the other thing. get me

I take it then that you are not the drum & bass producer Lomax.

Think it's 50% on digital although I suppose it depends on the label. They only really have to pay for mastering so it's not like there's any great outlay as there would be for vinyl. When you're looking at £900 for mastering and pressing 500 pieces of vinyl, I don't think that there's a huge amount of money in it, possibly £400 profit once it goes to wholesale, and that's presuming you sell out.

And label people that know better please say.
Hmm....

Got a mate who makes fifteen pence per tune through Beatport. Makes no difference whether the tune sells as an mp3 or as wav, even though theres a pound difference to the punter. He reckons these days a tune is basically a promotional device to get bookings.

^^^

That extra cost is for the additional bandwidth req'd to DL a FLAC/WAV vs. a MP3.
