Warlock - under the cosh EP
yo, I just found this when helping a friend who owns a second hand record shop sort some shit out, and also a NoYeahNo record...
surprised this stuff isnt talked about more really..
this LP is kind of a mix of really hard grime and breakbeat garage, its good, the title track is kinda messy, but some really sick stuff on the B Side.
obvious comparision would be Vex'd
who else is into this? whats his stuff now like?

this record is nuts. warlock and rag + bone have been serving up some next level rawness going back to like 2003. i remember this being out around the same time as the early big apple and road releases and it always seemed like an unsung contribution to the early development of the sound.
edit: actually the early one i was thinking of isn't "under the cosh" though that's still big. but there's one called "silence is defeat" that was so next level at the time. they have it as digital download on boomkat: http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=33392

Rag & Bone are still at it, as far as I know, Warlock released a 12" earlier this year called Window Smasher (??), the label started off releasing stuff in a kind of electro breakbeat grime vein similar to Combat records and has since moved toward a more Breakstep influenced style.
Starksound, the R&B sister label released a really good Starkey 12" last year and promptly disappeared.
The Starkey 12" is the Biiiiizzzznnneeezzzz....

Rag & Bone should be part of every 'step head's common knowledge
Some heavy beats there, ie. the King Cannibal 12" from last february is just insane.

ask directly from the label?Dubloke wrote:really feeling this stuff, is there anywhere I can get any Warlock on vinyl, looks like its sold out in all my usual record shops?

Go search Rag and Bone 001! Kind of the blueprint for a lot of stuff that was made many years later. Brilliant record.Joe C wrote:yo, I just found this when helping a friend who owns a second hand record shop sort some shit out, and also a NoYeahNo record...

I made an all Rag and Bone mix in late 2006, will find it and post it here.

Warlock has been in the game for a long time (Kickin' Records anybody). He knows his music inside out, as does his partner noyeahno.
Got ultimate respect for them, also Controlled Weirdness and Blackmass Plastics. The original south london bass crew imo.
I'm honoured to be associated with and play for them. Rag & Bone is a no skool no pigeonhole sound which is what it's all about for me. One of my favourite labels since it came about.
Big ups.
