Radiant - Cecilium (dubstep/orchestral)

Post by Radiant » Tue Apr 19, 2011 8:45 pm

Soundcloud

Hope you guys like it, any feedback is appreciated!
I've tried to do a tiny bit of mastering myself, but am considering having it done externally if people like it.

EDIT : It's mastered now, enjoy!

Very cool man. I have to say for a brostep club tune this is pretty high caliber in my opinion. You should be proud of it and i would definitely say its good enough to spend a few bucks on getting mastered. With that being said if i can offer some criticism i would say the vocally synth lead thing that comes in at :15 with the drums and all that needs more character. Its a small detail that i think would really help the overall track if you were to tweak it a bit more. And overall i do think the leads and melodies in this track are what need the most work. The wobbly bass is obviously your main focus and in my opinion sounds pretty much as good as anything else thats coming out in this style nowadays. so now i think if your going to make any changes to the track before mastering i would take another look at your that vocal synth and the organ.

Thanks for the feedback!
I'll take a look at the vocal synth and see what I can do.

I've also left you feedback on your track!

Thanks for your feedback on my tune that was greatly appreciated. I really like your tune. The structure, for me one of the hardest things to get right, is impeccable. I love the basses and The only couple of things that I noticed myself that I think could be improved are
a. the tone of the very short stab organ parts that start at 14s and 1:43. They seemed to grind on me a little bit. Maybe change the wavetable a bit and adjust the envelope so that they have a slightly longer release.
b. The EQ on the snare seems to be cutting too much of the top end out and it therefore loses some of its impact.
After reading rainbo's comment I had a listen again to see what he meant by the bass wobble needing more character. I think that something that could give it more character would either having some sort of modulation on the vibrato to get it to sound like it evolves a bit more or get the vibrato to be different for different notes played.
Feedback and advice would be greatly appreciated! I will return the favour!

Three things:

1) The snare needs attention
2) The kick needs attention
3) Mastering would make it sound much better.

Both the kick and snare don't come out enough. Maybe the kick is less of a problem since I don't have a sub, only monitors, but the snare is for sure a problem. The synths are all sitting nice in their place, but the snares gotta shine as well.

Took a look at it, and just noticed I accidentally had a filter placed on it cutting a lot of the highs! Fixing it now.. :(

EDIT : Fixed it, does the feedback still apply to the current setting?

Thanks! Always nice to hear good feedback!

I'm going to check a few mastering studios to get it done after revising it a bit, I'll keep you updated!

I'm currently 19, started playing a bit with the keyboard when I was 14, FL Studio when I was 15, after that pretty much guitar, singing and some drums, mainly inspired by classical music (Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach mainly) and after hearing Flux Pavilion/Nero I wanted to be a part of dubstep! :) Started doing so since late January.

Love it!!

Percussion sounds very crisp which is nice (fun to get techy once you have some tight drums).
Melodies are my thing, I'm loving this one for sure.

Sounds like the kind of dubstep I try to make haha

Hi!

That's a nice track, there is not only wobble, it's melodic also, nice one!

Just the vocal synth at 0:15 sounds very strange alone, I think you may introduce with another instrument, I would sound much better to my ears!

PS: you can check the various feedbacks I've made on my profile, you'll see there are a few ones ;-)

Thanks for the feedback on my post.

Really diggin your track! I like how the wobble is prominent but not the only element that keeps your attention, its flows really well. Looking forward to hearing more tunes from you.
