Any tips for my first track? [mp3]

Post by nickb » Sun Apr 09, 2006 5:58 pm

Well, I've been producing a good few years now and I've been meaning to try and start to make my own dubstep, so I had a quick go at it. Did this in around an hour, it's nothing special but any commets would be appreciated.

i mean it's alright

kinda generic if you see what i mean

also the synth annoys me a bit - doesn't really morph at all

production wise sounding quite tight, maybe a bit more sub

yeah the strongest point is overall sound quality... drums could be tuned more to have a little more grimey flavour perhaps

but probably u were doing it to see if you could nail the generic aspects of the style... and thats why it sounds generic. the rhythms are in the right ballpark for sure.

absolutely the bass sound needs more modulation/complexity-i like the fundamental sound though

the choice of notes for the bassline seems arbitrary and not like you really found a strong theme to settle into

needs more background noises to create a tanglible atmosphere, not just the random kind of reverby hissy bits-- try to paint a real picture with the background you know

id say the hi-hat pattern is too predictable sounding and makes the beat veer dangerously close to a standard 'rock' beat -- needs more going on in the 1st half of each measure, more offbeat hits

in closing i would say, for your next track make sure you have at least one strong central element with some personality that makes you stand up and think 'thats cool'.... Im sure youve got plenty of skills so the next one should be good!

ps. hi im new here :P
