it seems that shuffling is bigger in london than uk funky in it's heyday.

also, i wonder will funky ever get the same oldskool status as garage has now, meaning frequent oldskool garage nights and radio shows.

does anybody have any links to '07-'08 rinse (or any else) radio shows when the sound was still half us funky house and half uk stuff?

It's a shame that the "darker" more bongo-led, soca beat kind of stuff never really found it's foothold. Such a great sound and it never really went anywhere. Anyone still making this style?

I know Beneath arguably took this sound and made it really dark but even that's starting to move more toward a sort of "techno" sound.

Actual shuffling, no. But the "deep tech" style of house, yes.

And nah I can't see it happening, it's not really a well documented scene and I don't think it was big enough. I can't imagine a series of strictly funky radio shows without a couple tracks being repeated

i think as a sub-genre or aesthetic it was pretty succesful, it was influeced by cool shit and continues to influence cool shit. here in berlin many djs (moveD, tama sumo, red rack'em, margret dygas, franklin de costa, borris, etc etc) sprinkle uk funky 'standards' through their house techno sets, and quite often it gets used as a bridge phrasing between percussive afro/latin house into techno.

hearing a solid 2+ hours of it (or anthing the same for that mater) gets a bit boring

Geeneus - Yellowtail
Geeneus - Good Life feat. Katy B
D-Malice - Gabryelle (Refix)
Princess Nyah - Frontline
Roska - Squark
Donae’o - Party Hard
Hard House Bantons - Sirens
Geeneus - As I feat. Katy B
MJ Cole - Volcano Riddim
Shystie - Pull It (Ill Blu Mix)

Cheers man.

There's bound to be a revival at some point... probably in 10 years or something...
