Mix of Dubstep/Electronic set with unique(?) approach

Post by ikeaboy » Thu Feb 10, 2011 9:05 pm

Hi everyone heres a recording of an hybrid Dj/live gig I did in a room with church-like acoustics. I had the idea that instead of fighting the room acoustics I decided I would try including them as an effect. After all I find it hard not to put at least one hall reverb in my productions why not see this as an opportunity to work with an actual hall reverb?

I had a direct recording, from the laptop soundcard, of the feed to the sound system closest to the crowd from which they would hear a very 'dry' sound as the closeness of the speakers would defeat the room sound. A second louder sound system, supplied with a separate mix, was set up far away from the crowd as possible and was recorded by 2 capacitor mic's which picked up how that system sounded in the Hall itself (along with crowd talking, laughing and cheering). The feed to both sound systems was changed dynamically, with filters and effects, during the gig for the purpose of creating effects such as the virtual perspective of the listener changing and lulls and swells etc... I hope people enjoy it, it was a lot of fun to do and the two sound system technique worked a treat.

Well man did you give it a listen? The last 15-20 minutes I'm particularly happy with. Heres a short video taken from the night.
