New Autechre Quaristice

Post by overdose » Sat Feb 02, 2008 6:46 pm

What's your thoughts on the new Autechre album. You can check it out on Bleep if you haven't already. Just like every later ae album it will require a few hundred listens to get your head around, but so far I'm all about it. In an interview, Booth and Brown said that many of the 20 tracks are cut from live jam sessions and this is evident. It's all over the place, but really good imo. Thoughts?

They haven't done anything worthwhile since LP5 if you ask me. Just a load of soulless digital self-love, the electronic equivalent of a Steve Vai guitar solo.

Definitely a try before you buy for me.

Looking forward to this! Heard that it's distinctly more 'retro' in flavour than most of their recent releases.

Also, I'm really curious and excited about the 2nd CD that comes with the limited edition 2CD release. I was lucky enough to order one from warpmart, as there's only 1000 (mad limited!), but I'll have to wait until next month's release date. It's supposed to be 11 tracks of "reinterpretations" of tracks from the first disc.

Some killer moments. Sounds like a bit more of the sum of all their previous LP's, from Incunabula to Untilted, rather than continuing down the same path.

not too into it on first listen. But then, this has been the case with several of their recent albums that I know rather enjoy.

It does seem that they've moved a bit over into 'mainstream glitch' territory, if you will. Either that, or the rest of the music community is slowly starting to be able to reproduce some of what they do, so that sound is more common now, I'm not sure which it is.

My boyfriend ruined a romantic moment last night with:

'Shall we put on some Aawtocker?'

Now every time they're mentioned I find myself saying Aawtocker instead of Autechre.

'What is that not how it's pronounced?'
