Garage Bass?

Post by upstateface » Fri Apr 16, 2010 7:26 pm

Hello production heads. I'm probably gonna see a few alpacas for this but whatever. I've been trying to make this something similar to this bass (0:27) for quite a while now and i'm not getting anywhere. Any tips guys? Thanks in advance. :D

A-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-alias alias. Wasn't alias nicky s, Nike and dj pele?

There was a DVD which showed them in the studio, wasn't really a tutorial on how to make beats but was quite cool. Think it was called behind the scenes, agent x made it. Wookie, dexplicit, ez, matt jam, sunship and loads of other garage heads was on it.

Talking if grimey tunes who remembers balck ops and the whole sublow scene...

I lent the dvd to my mate, i just text him and he reckons he still has it so i'll try to get it off him soon. I remember wookie saying the only reason he made storm was because 138 trek came out a few weeks earlier and he wanted to make somthing dirtier :)

yea jokes how he's making some really nice soulful stuff now after making all those dirty tunes back then. Think the dvd was called garage and bassline behind the scenes or something like that, i just googled it with no luck though.

Behind tha Scene DVD
Grime, Garage & Bassline Volume 1
Heatseeker Recordings

Noticing that with the current onslaught of Grime crew based DVD's on the market, the focus has always been on the MC's and "artists" in the scene rather than on the Producers who actually write the music, Agent X set out to do a DVD of their own. Featuring interviews with some truly huge names in the Garage and Grime scenes, Behind tha Scene ventures into the studios of EZ, Sticky, D'Explicit, Agent X themselves, DJ Target of Roll Deep, Todd Edwards, Sunship, Alias, Wookie, Logan Sama, Delinquent, Wideboys, Matt "Jam" Lamont, Riplash & Sus, Jamie Duggan, Booda... and several others. A very interesting delve into the minds behind the music regardless of your preferences between the various styles and sub genres of UK Garage and Grime. Also comes with a CD. Two short mixes, one By Agent X and the other by Rossi B & Luca.

I could swear there's a filter envelope in there... Unless you're including that in the shaping of the 808?

sick tune btw love that reese whomp going on in there too, instead of using a square wave use a sine or triangle wave and distort the input on the 1st filter or saturation as it's called in the virus and then use 2nd filter to shape it. Can do this in massive having the skream filter into LP2 or daft filter in series

This dude is far too formal for UKG hahaha, and he looks like he's having a wank when he's playing the sounds... Wank face.

Virus is a lovely synth though, what a nice sound he made... Personally I would have played his patch polyphonically and played the octave below too...

Another UKG trick is just to sample an organ across your sampler and play it in a lower range then modulating!
