Acid House is the reason I started writing music. I saw Phuture 303 a few years ago, they changed my life.

get a x0xb0x, seriously good. search x0xb0x on here or youtube for more info. I have 2 (well one and a half at this point).

At the risk of being a wanker ( :6: ) look whats on its way to me...

Just coming back from a service and refurb. Bought it needing a little work so went straight to a techy. I so seriously cant wait !

Just sick of vsts, mice (mouses?) and screens at the moment. (and skrillex noises!)

yeah my mates got an 808 brought it round the other weekend. Just so sick sounding.

The thing with all these old roland (and others) boxes is theyre so simple to use, yet almost impossible to make them sound bad.

My tech guy has finished with the 909, and has very kindly offered to drop it round, but wont be near me til the end of the month. :corncry: :corncry: :corncry:

So im debating whether to get it couriered, and risk it getting lost/damaged (its in factory mint condition now) or to just wait. 3 f'in weeks tho!

Decisions decisions.

If youre near stockport UK you can bob round for a jam sometime if you like :)

Cheers

808s are going for more than 909s IMO... if you get an 808 for 890 quid youre doing v well.

£1200-£1500 for a decent one.

FWIW I copped my 909 for £900 but it was a bargain as needed work and i knew the guy. £200 repairs = £1100 in total. But factory new, all caps changed, complete set of new tact switches (all the main buttons at the bottom) and a complete slean inside and out.

So did well.

And i know this all sounds very self indulgent but im 35 and been doing this for years, let alone a full time job since 22. Its an investment too, if i ever need to sell i should at least get my cash back. I bought one x0x with a tax rebate and won the other in a competition :) So not some trustafarian.

Yeah, thread of the week/year so far imo, all the old crew back together and having a decent convo.

How do i sound like armando BTW?

any clue anybody?
Theres a geezer on ebay flogging them but id be very wary about buying a box off ebay - too many dodgy ones.

Technology Transplant are 100% the ones to avoid, very shoddy, loads of threads on x0x forum. Touched By Sound have stating importing theres and also juno (? - one of the online record shops) :corncry: Of all the ones to choose.

IMO;

If you want a ready made one;
Uk - The beast
Europe - x0xshop.de (also kits/parts/cool aluminium cases)
US - Altitude/Midiot (vintage synth forum/x0x forum) / x0x source

Kits - willzyx (official distributor after adafruit gave up) or x0xshop.de.

They are the only people id def recommend. My first was a the beast, 2nd is a x0xshop kit.

Have a good read thru the forums. Do some research. Dont get skanked. End up with a sick x0x.

Mods are all dead easy if you can build the kit and even if not - mainly just wiring a switch or pot up.

Mods wont fit in the alu case tho :)

Have been doing standard computer based production lately, but was moving in this direction, just a jammable full on rig. Got a lot of the components assembled, but one thing I'm missing, and don't see in my future is a mixer. Just no space for it. But this is what it is about, this is how you build natural flow, just play the whole song, so much more FUN then just mousing away at your computer screen.

Wish I could find a cheap SMALL 24 or 16 track mixer that was good enough to record through...

This is my thing at the mo ! (nice one for the thread wub btw)

Currently, with a mate, got a set up comprising a Yamaha RS7000 Sequncer/Sampler/Groovebox, TR909, and a zoom R16 8 track digital mixer/hardrive recorder, which we used to record the sets i did the other week. We also have a Juno HS60 (juno106), Blofeld, Akasi S2000 sampler, Shruthi-1 synth (just waiting on the programmer kit, see my DIY thread), another x0xb0x (needs a few bugs fixing), Zoom 1204 FX and a (currently being fixed) Soundcraft mixer, to improve on this. We are also just learning how best to do all this. Been years since i used hardware.

Here are the live sets I did the other week. Listening back its quite minimal... always sounds better on a big slightly distorted rig. Not too bad for our first go. :) Theres a small gap in the middle as we did two sections, with a reload in between, played some stuff off cd to cover the gaps, which weren't recorded. I also forgot to fade the end so ends abruptly.

Also a copy of the live jam practise set we did the night before; kind of a bit better in some ways.

http://paradigmx.com/audio/practise_live_set.mp3

Not claiming its the best thing ever by any means, but it was fun to do, and pretty live as these things go. Basically just a ton of loops in all the boxes, and jamming around. No laptops! It was actually really draining (physically and mentally, although the 4 hour drive to Newcastle immediately before didnt help). Felt completely wiped out afterwards! Weird. Was quite a small night, about 40-50 people but seemed to buzz off it. Unfortunately we were inbetween two very hard fast freeparty tekno djs so sounded a bit slow and minimal...

Was def useful to practise out on a big rig tho, def a few things to improve for next time, and incorporate some more kit/fx when my mixer is fixed.

Daren Ager on youtube also has a ton of completely live stuff

I bought his old TR909. :U:

; check his others out too. His old signature was 'tweaking, muting, no computing...' :)

not had much chance to do much recently, so been polishing up old recordings (909 + x0x) and super geeky synth DIY stuff.

Anyone want a couple of live takes to mess around with ? (will be x0x, plus 909 kick, clap and 'rest of 909') for playing with/sampling/fsu'ing?

PM if so

Cheers
