Re: Gear lust
Looking at selling my AX80. As nice as it is it's such a hassle to set up, and VSTs are just infinitely better for workflow and manipulation.
Quite fancy a small piece of analog gear just to process inbox sounds to add a little character. Any ideas? Ideally only want to spend up to about £200, thinking maybe a delay or something.

Also meant to say, if you want easy, PRINT, mf'er. Print yo shit! Nothing to remember. No patches to save, no fx routings to remember!fragments wrote:I have to say though...for me...less is more in the studio. Also, I've found, kinda of deciding on a routing setup for a project is really useful...like I use this FX on this piece of gear or I don't use it. I know I could just take notes...but there is something about walking in, flipping on the hardware and getting to noodling while the computer loads my DAW...

Re: Gear lust
We recently set up our patchbay so that the channel outputs on the mixer are normalled to the first 24 inputs of our ADC. Mixes basically multitrack themselves now, no patching necessary. For complete recalls, we just have to send the channels out to the mixer and leave all faders at 0dB. It's been a huge time saver and has made my life so much easier. Print EVERYTHING if you are working in a hardware set up and you'll be a lot happier. I can't believe it took us so long to realize this.

Re: Gear lust
@Lucifa: if you are even basically aquatinted with a soldering iron, I highly recommend these:
http://www.diyrecordingequipment.com/collections/colour
And a used 500 series 2 space rack shouldn't set you back too far while allowing for a huge range of amazing analog processing treatment in a small space.
Another option for amazing analog color is an old roland or korg tape echo. Just running signals through the preamps, without even touching the delay, reverb or chorusing, makes them much more interesting. They are analog mojo in a box. Mono only though

Re: Gear lust
Well everything is ROHS compliant at this point, so you're no longer inhaling lead fumes
but it still smells terrible. Just hold your breath when actually melting solder and it's not too bad.
These kits and their documentation are really good and super easy. Other than the LEDs it's all novice level stuff.

Yea. I just need to print things. Commit!

So after swearing that I would end my terrible bout of recent G.A.S, I just went and pulled the trigger on a pair of Equator D5's didn't I!
Too good to miss, they're really hard to get in Australia and shipping them from the US whacks the price up something fierce.
As new condition but already burned in, with all extras, for $450. So happy with them! I think i'd take 'em over Mackie HR824 mk I's and Genelecs tbh. Just love the sound of them.

If you're ever in Amsterdam and you happen to have the 824's on you, hit me up.

ahhh sorry, I wasn't saying I actually owned any 824's… it was a hypothetical situation to which I was referringAxeD wrote:If you're ever in Amsterdam and you happen to have the 824's on you, hit me up.

I do have access to a pair at my work though, but I'm fairly sure the boss'd notice if they went "on holiday" to Amsterdam

@Nowaysj: was at the old man's place today...plugged in the Zip drive...won't eject the disk that has been inside it for two decades : (

Re: Gear lust
Typical Zip. Most unreliable format. I used to run a design firm back during the zip days. We'd go through drives and disks like semidisposable media.
Re: Gear lust
If you have a paper clip, btw, you can eject the disk. Just look around the front, there is usually a little hole that a paper clip fits in.
Re: Gear lust
OK!! I need one of these. Built from a Commodore 64!

I love humans. Bro, you're so jokes with this recent bubbling of keytardom, btw.mks wrote:OK!! I need one of these. Built from a Commodore 64!
Can picture you riding around on your sound system bike, with shades, flip flops and a keytar strapped to your back. See a couple ladies dressed in pastels, walking by the park. You roll up, inch your shades down, "Hey ladies, ever heard of the eighties?" Loud buzzing and jack sound as you swing the keytar around to the front and plug in to your bike's sound system. The girls cover their mouths and laugh, looking at each other. You proceed to lay out the mad keytar jam, their hips begin to involuntarily sway, their hands come up into full white girl dance. Jump cut to mks in bed with these ladies, cupping one chick's bare buttock as the other drags her erect nipples through your chest hair.
Pan up to mks's wide grin, the neck of the keytar can be seen leaning against the bed, fade out with "Damn it feels good to be a gangsta..."

Re: Gear lust
That's how I roll bro, minus the flip-flops, usually just a pair of Vans.
