@GunnarHansen: Really nice track here. I really like the swing vibe. The only thing that I can say is the intro sounds like it's out of key almost. I know a lot of the same samples are used throughout but something just doesn't sound right. Apart from that, the samples are great, I really like the bass. The drum and percussion sounds are well placed. I like all the effects going on. Can't wait to hear the finished version.

@kes-es: The intro is well done. I was however expecting something different going into the main part. To be honest it feels like it needs more; it gets a bit boring after a while. The bass hits nice. The main part feels like it needs more hats or something. I like the lead and the vox.

@zosomajik: Overall, it seems like it's lacking a sense of atmosphere and anticipation for each proceeding part. It just seems to move through. Also, that 1 hat that's in use throughout gets old after a while. I would introduce some different sounds throughout to keep it alive. I like the overall sound but it just seems a bit empty at times. It sounds like a really nice start though.

Anyways, here's my newest:
Soundcloud

I've been getting back into jazzy hip-hop and I just started working on this one. There's not a whole lot of variation but it's meant to have somebody rhyming on top of it.

I'm very new to making electronic music, so i really shouldn't be giving advice to anyone, but I guess I can offer my opinion as a guy who listens to music. I promise I will give more concise feedback in the future when I'm hopefully better at this.

@Gunnar: This sounds very good to me. I'm not really familiar with the style, but it sounds very well put together, and it's quite catchy.

@bouncingfish: I can't hear anything wrong with the mix, and the tune itself is pretty chill. Yeah, maybe it's a little cheesy, but I don't really mind.

@cmgoodman1226: i think this sounds very nice, I automatically started bobbing my head when I started listening to it. With some rhymes on top, it's gonna be dope. I think the hat that comes in at around 0:20 gets a little annoying after a while. Maybe it's because it stands out a little too much, it's very noticeable since it hits slightly off the beat and it's also quite loud in the mix.

Like i said, I'm not really qualified to critique you guys, since you obviously have a lot more experience. I first started trying to make electronic music about four months ago, and although I feel like I've learned a lot it's still easy to hear that I'm very new to this. I guess this is brostep, since it's got some "yay"-bass?
Soundcloud
I'm not happy with the bass sound in the intro, and I know the build ups are a little messy...
Any input would be appreciated. I know I need to practice to get better at mixing, but I think it's hard to figure out exactly what I need to work on by myself.

Hey man, gotta start somewhere. Take a look at your waveform, your verse is quieter than your build, I would check out your gain staging and mixdown and get your levels properly sorted.

As for the arrangement I would keep working on your basslines and drums and try to get a more defined vibe and flow to your track. You have the ideas down and the sounds are there, just focus on beefing up your basslines and getting your drums bigger and punchier. It will come with time, keep at it!

Hey! long time no post on this forum, been working hard.

@cmgoodman1226 I really love this old hip hop feel, reminds me of people under the stairs, what are you using for the sucking, scratching fx? Real cool. The drums sound real crisp, great mix I have nothing but positives for this.

@Mordern are these sounds you've made or patches? The drums are neat, the shrieking bass is kind of hard, but I appreciate what you were trying. My only feedback really is to work on your sound design, make some drum kits. I liked the bridge part and the build up around 2:44.

@Ocelots Revolver I absolutely love that delicious tree one, sounds like subfocus, really dig that. The mix is great and the drums sound really good, love water like effect, kind of has a pendulum effect. I think some vocals would sound so good over this. The build ups are very great as well I enjoyed all the little edits.

Heres something I've been playing with, not sure where its going, feedback would be cool

hi guys :t: , sorry been away from this for a while due to other commitments. long time since I posted on here but back on it now so hopefully can produce some bangers with your help :)

@cmgoodman1226 I must say I really like that, its soulful and simple yet keeps you hooked in. I think could do with a bit more serious sub in there but overall top notch :D love the atmosphere from the beginning.

@kes-es love the drop. could do with a bigger build up in the beginning and up the kicks n snares as someone previously said and your onto a good track :D

@zosomagik I like it dude, its mellow and rolling. i'd add more high synths to pan it out a bit after the 2nd drop. bit too much mid range in there aswell I think.

Here's a couple of my latest tracks:-

Neither of these are finished yet but any feedback greatly appreciated as a lot of time and effort has been spent

Fu5ion: great, but very clean production. It's way clubbier than the stuff I'm into, both in terms of mixdown and style, but you clearly have your stuff together. Nice variations in the bass melody and texture throughout. The arp feels a little awkward when it comes back in during the breakdown. Maybe work that transition a bit more.Good job!

Ratcub: pretty good sound design and production. To me it feels torn between if it wants to be a minimal track or if it wants to be busier. The sounds and rhythms suggest busier, but if so, it needs more variations and memorable moments to help keep it moving along.

Mordern: I like the off kilter rhythms used in parts. Production could use some thickening and crisping. The synth parts all sound really disparate, maybe use some bus compression or saturation to try and get things gelling. Overall, synth work and arrangement is pretty solid, mix and production could use some polish

Here's my track so far, going for a heavy, hypnotic minimal vibe. More dub than step.

@knobgoblin All I can say is maybe bring the bass down a bit,it sounds like it's taking away the impact of the other elements in the track. Other than that it sounds nice.

I've been building an old school LFO track, pretty happy with the general feel and mixdown so far. Will probably add some sort of melody to the intro as it's a bit boring at the moment

@cmgoodman1226

I like the warmth of this. Could definitely hear some really agressive emotional rapping on top of this... as a matter of fact, I know a really good rapper in houston, I could talk to him if you'd like. Other than that, I think maybe just eq the kick to give it a little more boom. Just a little :P

@mordern

To be honest, you're doing a million times better than I was four months into production. I'd say just look into sound design some more, but keep the arrangement of the song, because I actually dig it. Maybe try cutting less high end out of your kick or finding a kick with some more transient/high end to it.

@fu5ion_

I'm sorry... but literally your entire song is vengeance loops. There is a difference between sampling... using DRUM samples, deconstructing loops, and just using raw loops like you have... My advice is to use those loops for inspiration, not just use 60 of them in one song. I'm not meaning to come of as hostile either, because I used to do the same thing, but to really develop as a producer, you need to be able to make your own sounds.

I haven't posted in ages... but... here's a handful of tracks that I've started. I would like to find someone to collab with on most of these tracks or maybe someone who would like to release on an EP as a duo?
If you're interested, message me on here.

Trumpets - This song is influenced by the trumpets in Zomboy's Here to stay. I really was digging the syncopated skank feel with the trumpets, so I decided to make a song with that general feel. I'll be having a couple of friends who play trumpet come and record the trumpet parts for this, but for now it's just a soundfont.
Soundcloud

Step Brothers - This song is a tribute to the movie step brothers... just because.
Soundcloud

Untouchable - I always liked how datsik would throw in older rap samples in his songs like firepower, so I decided to take my favorite 2pac song and work with it.
Soundcloud

Wreckage Remix (not up for collab) This is a tribute to my friend Matt (mortar) who is no longer on the dubstep scene I assume. He took a hiatus sometime last year or before and I haven't heard from him since, but he was a really talented producer and took me under his wing some. He gave me the stems for his song wreckage before he left, and I just now decided to use them.

I have no expensive speakers or headphones to accurately listen to songs. Nor do I have tons of experience in music production. I can only provide laymans feedback...

@mordern

Decent work for a first try... You could improve your sound quality and patches. Try not to use any patches or samples made by another dubstep or edm producer...it's generally better to make your own. Even though the process may be painful and tedious, you get to learn some tricks in the process.

@Official8bit

Pretty good, the screeches in between the wet growls are more prominent than the growls itself. You could lower the volume on it so it can all get "equalized"

@fu5ion

Both songs are good, much better than anything I can currently or will make in the near future. It sounds a little poppy(being in the pop/krewella style of dubstep) for my tastes. I can imagine it being played in a kandy club atmosphere. Some of the other users made comments on how you may have used pre made patches and drum loops... It's good to make your own patches. As I mentioned in the first song comment.

Here is my current project...I expect it to be released in 2 weeks time. I posted a clip earlier and got very little feedback(hoping I can get some more this time)... I think I altered some Eq parameters and removed/dampened some excess sounds that were present in the last version.

This is my second attempt at making a song, 3.5 months after I started doing dubstep, and 1.5 months after my last song attempt.

It's unfinished, and towards the end, I have yet to fill in the rest of the drop.

I love detailed feedback I think it will help me improve my sound quality and producing habits. So please be as detailed as possible.

Thanks

I give brutally honest feedback and would like some in return

dansci- I actually hate this kind of music but your song has a lot of cool elements. The main thing I would focus on would be melody, chords, and progression. You have some great bass patches but what really makes a song catchy is chords and movement- even if it's just a supersaw chord at the end of every 2 bars or 4 or whatever. Just add some more melodic content and you'll fill out your track

paradigm- pretty groovy. Add some drum fills and random percussive noises to make it a little less repetitive. Think of the song as a like a story with chapters and right now its just one long chapter but you can add things to show development. Does that make sense?

filthor- I don't have time to listen to all of those so just the first one- Add more, always need more going on. More melodic content, more percussion. Add that shit in layers. You have a good foundation of the track and nothing needs to be taken away. But sometimes when we listen to our own tracks we hear what we made and think "that sounds really legit- everything works well" but the listener hears "ok that sounds good but I need more. Give me more to interest my ears"

@mtl6 It's a groovy beat, but leave it in half time, the stuttering hats sound good (maybe a bit more dynamics) and they got more space in the mix with the fewer snares. Your song Koto is fresh though, funky fresh! big up

@filthor Trumpets - Change your snare, and add more to it, maybe get rid of that bassline skanka vocal too cause it's kind of plebworthy. The drop actually worked well though, it would sound better with some more percussion. big up

@ParadignAU the original badbwoy sound, blud :twisted: even though its pretty formulaic, I like it, the hi-hats got flow and the wobble got my head noddin, maybe just tweak the waveforms on your bass patch a bit. big up

First off, fuck my computer for making me type this all again :u:

Anyways;

@ mtl6; I really like the nature of this tack. Upbeat and just an all around good vibe. The mix is solid but my problem is the drums (kick and snare mostly). Everything else feels really polished but those two elements dont seem to fit that well. Imo it has this very 8 bit sort of 80's feel about it but with a modern production sense of mind. Id say embrace that 80's feel and saturate/compress the drums to all hell. Think Genesis meats Prince.

@ dansci; This whole mix is just way too scooped. Where are the mids? Its all highs and some muddy lows. The sub is weak and the drums are getting overpowered by the shear volume of the high end of the growl/synth thing. Theres some cool sounds and i like the overall theme of the track, but the mix just makes it hard to listen too. As someone else stated, it sounds a bit static in arrangement. I like the ascending pattern, but thats really all it has. Try a chord stab every 4 bars or so and it will make the track breath a lot more. Not trying to hate on your tune seeing as i do dig it, but it needs a lot of work.

@ knobgoblin; I always wished i could make tunes like this. Minimal songs that dont really go anywhere. Ive listened to this a few times now and every time i just close my eyes and bob my head a bit. Mix sounds nice and the sitar (i believe thats what youre using) adds a nice effect to the background without taking away from the vibe.

I havent made a electronic track of any sort on quite some while. Im not too happy with the mix and i know theres some things i forgot, but overall im pleased with the song as a whole. :4:

@crimsonGhost: Thanks for checking it out! Thats my favorite kind of track to make! Ones that are super minimal and hypnotic, that kinda stay in a mood. Your track is no longer available, but I listened to Taco Tuesday. The drums sound a bit too DubStepTM for me. Are those the vengeance drums everyone goes on about? Its good, but just sounds a tad generic. The resonance pad thing could also use some spicing up, maybe different procesing on the left and right sides to get a more interesting panorama on that sound. Bass sits nicely in the mix.

@_TraX_:Really love this track! The low end is super creative, and the drums are unique and sit well in the mix. The Rhodes part feels like it could use some sculpting in the low end to make them sit better with the really detailed low end you have going on. Maybe high passing around 180hz and doing a few tight notches at the key fundamentals. The lead synth is really nice too. If you are looking to add more interest to it, i think all the elements are already there, just do a bunch of automation on the reverb and delay FX it is running thru. This track already sounds excellent though and has a unique aesthetic, great job!

Here's my new jam., 3 Patterns on the Elektron AR and one on the A4, which is also sequencing the modular, triggering the TipTop 808 kick and two bass sounds. The A4 is only acting as a sequencer and FX processor for the modular. The only sound it is actually generating is a noisy snare layer. All the other sounds come from the AR. Very few edits after the fact. I used a few 500 series compressors for a few of the sounds, and mix bus compression and EQ. I also used a strymon Deco and lexicon 300 for fx processing.

Soundcloud

Let me know if you dig it. Thanks for checking it out! Gotta run now, but will be back later to give two more bits of feedback

Thanks for checking it or man, I'll have to check why my new tune won't play. I made that other one a couple years ago, and no, at not vengeance. I Usually go easy on my drums and don't over process them but iirc that was a couple of layered sampled and some parallel compression.

This track is sounding on point man, only thing I'd say is everything is a bit too staccato. Dunno if that was the vibe you were going for or not, but personally I feel it's detrimental to the track. Your drums are sick, nice and punchy :)

@_TraX_: I like this track man its really chill. I like the variation you put in there too. The synths a 2:00 at beautiful. The percussion you used compliments the synths very well. The only thing I could see you improving on is the melody, maybe change it up a bit. I love the feel that you were going for and you did a great job. Keep up the good work brother and I can't wait to see what happens with your track :)

@knobgoblin: Sick track mate I love the ambient effects you fit into the song. The drums in your song are also really good and are eqed well. The one thing you could improve on is your song structure, I think it would be pretty cool to see a time change in there :)

@Murky1: Hey man like the track you are working on, it sounds really different :) I like the way you start it and have the drums kick in at 0:28 with the high hat. Your off to a nice start but the first things I would work on is the drums, maybe add a different kick and some variation to your drum pattern. Also to mix your drums with your song I would recommend getting VolumeShaper 4, trust me it is worth the price it changed my life when I started using it for sidechaining :)

Ok and here is my WIP feel free to message me on SoundCloud if anyone is looking for some help :)

Soundcloud

My plan is to add a second drop in half time to make it punchyer haha and I would like to spend some more time eqing my drums in the first drop and possibly adding some more ambient effects throughout the song :)

Alright guys... I just made a new track and I need to hear some different music so I'm here to give some feedback...

@Kosmonaut: Immediately I think it's better than anything I've ever made. Love it. The drop's bass is awesome dude. If I were to nitpick I'd say let the higher bass notes come out a little more in the intro to keep level with the lowest bass note. And the build up before the drop could use some spicing up... Maybe a vocal or some sort of random percussion idk... put it during the tom fill or in the last beat before the drop.

@knobgoblin: Wasn't really feeling it until the part that comes in at 1:00. I admire your different styling but I just can't get into the groove, it's too all over the place. I wouldn't tame it a whole lot just put in a definite groove somewhere with some sort of instrument. That only goes for the intro before 1:00 by the way.

Ok so this is my track. Made it in roughly 5 hours over two days. I don't even really open FL anymore because I just got out of making music but some times I get something in my head that I want to do and this is it... A remix to Summit by Skrillex... This is pretty much how it's gonna stay unless I get some good advice that changes my mind.

@ChadDub Thanks a ton man :) I will work on it some to eq the sub, I just finished the song last night and all it needs is some mastering. Hopefully I can try to get it on EDM.com this weekend :)

I just listened to you track and I love it man :) it sounds really good I wish you would make more music, the only thing I would change is at 2:20 the sub is just a little too powerful, other than that its beautiful. Keep up the good work brother
