Are people lack of originality?

Post by nameless133 » Sun May 05, 2013 8:27 pm

You know guys when I check some home music maker forums like us, I mostly see people are asking about "how ... artist made this ..." or "how to make ... style ..." and "which software I need to do this".

So I think we have to think and personally find out what we can use or what we can do, not just shitposting on any forums. We need experiment, not just copy the supercool artists and discuss about ideas. :)

meh. I think this is a bandwagon point of view to be honest. People have to start somewhere. It's unrealistic to expect someone to come up with a new innovative sound without first being able to make the other types of sounds that are popular at the time.

I get what you are saying but I feel there is a lot to be learned from copying other people. If someone want to lean guitar you dont just give them a guitar and say "work it out". Sure they would probably create some original stuff but someone who leaned other peoples songs would make them look a fool.

So meta...

Of course people lack originality. Is imitation a good method to learn? Of course. Should you stop there and start releasing LPs? Not if you want to get any respect as an artist. The people who are just in it to get paid and look cool in front of a crowd rarely get far anyway. And if they do, who gives a shit? For every boring pedestrian producer, there's a crowd of boring pedestrian fans who will bump their shit.

The timeless artists will be the true innovators. History books don't have enough room for copycats.

I totally agree with the above 2 posts. Learning others people's songs is a really good way to learn about sound structure and arrangement. And learning how to make the Skrillex bass has probably got to be the most thought provoking in depth discussion on sound design ever (srs).

Everyone starts out ripping someone else off. But once you learn how to things work, then you can really start making music.
