From what I remember of a few years ago, 1030s were detailed and exiting to monitor on.

Also left me totally exhausted. Then again, was probably listening too loud.

I definitely always remember being impressed by how solid the
Genny's sounded in the lows.

Overly bright to my ears, but that's really the only drawback.
The second set in the studio I mixed on em was Mackie HR824mk2, definitely preferred the
Genelecs.

I miss mixing on 1038A's though. That speaker walks the fine line between earthquake
generator and super precise monitor.

You're looking to get a new set of monitors? Think these would be a pretty good choice.

I'm not looking per se, I certainly could use a better pair than my krk rokit 5's g2. Just some used 1030's may fall out of the sky and land on my head. We'll see, low chance of it.

For that purpose I'd recommend a different Finish loudspeaker company, Prime.

I'm always checking in, but have little to add (massive is fine, i don't sit on the floor, etc). The whole message board platform has been abandoned, it seems, as an idea.

anyhoot. more barely-relevant thoughts--

1) the last studio i mixed at with soffit-mounted speakers (an extreme rarity in NYC) had gennies. they sounded amazing. like knock-your-teeth-out-with-the-kick amazing. The aluminum cones are no joke. too big to mix on but excitinnnngggggg

2) for the sub- AMT and Barefoot $$$$ stuff, i think of adams on one end (creamy) and gennies on the other (punchy). Rokit's are beyond the genelec's, with things like the focals and still-functioning ns10's in the middle. If punchy works for you, go for it. might be a little exhausting on dance music. also might be completely fucking awesome.

also, dubstep is 112bpm these days.

I've been at 112 since the beginning of dubstep, like since 2010. Straight og truhead right here.

Re the rockets, I stopped using compressors, everything is so tight and punchy! Haha bad for me.

But, I can monitor for 6-7 hours without getting fatigued. I used to monitor much louder (and longer) on the ns10's and I swear they'd fuuuuck my ears.

Genelec 1032a are the only ones ive used. (http://toys4noise.co.uk/content/?produc ... -1032-pair) these ones. *cough* buy them *cough*
In al seriousness they are cracking but u have to be careful with the volume cos they are massive haha. you definitely don't need a sub with these either.

Those Primes are actually not only good for killing coyotes José  They are especially nice because they sound way bigger then they are.
Would love to check out the Focal CMS speakers, never seen them I think.

Really liked Barefoots though. When someone told me about them I really hoped
it was Bearfoot though :(

I mixed a lot of stuff on them years ago. They are very powerful speakers: Focused bass-range, accurate mids and Hifi-sounding highs. But they're sound made my ears always terribly tired.

Since I moved to Focal CMS65s with a Focal Sub, my mixes sound more balanced and I can mix longer without getting fatigued.
