Spam blasts, brickwalled mixes, and self-promotion via comment on someone else's song (by including a link to your tunes and not even saying anything about the track you're posting on.)
There's more but those are three glaring examples. Brickwalled mixes that make you scramble for the volume control - so annoying. Blarestep. Yuck.
Was part of a really healthy Music group which consisted of loads of people I knew from my hometown sharing music until one bedroom DJ type dude came along and started plugging the shit out of it with his mixcloud podcasts all the time.
Now that group's like a ghost-town

Going into the forums of other genres and posting shit.
Then there are cringe things like making fan pages for yourself when you have three followers.
Saying how old you are and asking people to check you out on ther people's songs
Making music videos when none of your songs reached more than 100 views
Or people with 20k followers but is stills begging for plays.SaveMidnight wrote:Asking for comments/follows without knowing anything about the other person is probably the worst. Either that or seeing someone who has 1000+ followers with no tracks having over 1000 plays, or having tracks with over 1000 plays and like six followers.
I don't think this is that bad.jaydot wrote:sending dubs via Fb chat with no prior/initial contact
When I just added everyone on my facebook (deleted everyone and only have people I work with/bounce ideas off now..) I'd get a lot of those, we both knew it was strictly 'business'.
My fan page, I try to post at least once a day. Beating the facebook algorithm on fan pages is tough these days, heres my findings based off just over 1,000 likes.
Posting link (i.e soundcloud) : Around 20-30% reach to followers naturally, 40-50% after likes/comments.
Text posts : Around 40-50% reach naturally. ??% after likes/comments.
Videos : Seem to have the most reach but not sure if its just because I don't post videos often so that type of post spikes as more 'important' and has more reach.
Photos : Has most reach and most potentiality to get likes. Its the easiest form of digestible media on the internet so tends to have the most activity on it.
I tend to post around 60% text posts. 35% links and 5% other media.
In the last 3 months I have lost around 20 likes but gained more than double that. Have a fairly decent reception to most posts and try to make things in a way what involve conversation. My reach per week is around 5-10k views.
I've never really asked for plays but obviously I will post older tunes/releases for any new fans and rotate through my soundcloud over 2-3 months. Making sure everything gets a ' new life ' even for a post.
I put teasers of things... In the morning UK time (one of my peak times) I will post.. "going to be doing a live stream later!"
Then I will post the link for stream within that post and create a new one later in the day.
There is loads of little tricks you can do without seeming spammy but still plastering yourself all around the place.
I think I am doing it right, hope this helps anyone.
