^you can get a pair of JBL control ones 90 squid, they are nearfield tho so you cant turn em up to loud without distorting etc, bargain for the price though.

Now that I'm totally broke I think I might be satisfied with my rig

Pro Tools 7

too many plugins to get my head around

Tannoy PBM6.5 + 200W power amp (great for the price, check Tannoys if you're looking for monitors)

Juno 106
Alesis X25
AT4040+4033+3035
EV RE27N/D
1210s

I use a G4 Powerbook running:

Abelton 4
Reason 3
Soundstudio
Mackie 1402VlZ
Roland TR909
Roland RE 301 Space Echo
Event 20/20 monitors - which i agree with Mathhead are pony for bass response...am saving up for some good monitors...if only i could stop buying vinyl... :(

Oops forgot my sound card...M Audio Firewire Audiophile - which i can hardly use since i got my Mac repaired as the internal noise is soo bad it leaks...real bummer if you're trying to sample stuff...need to get it sorted...anyone else had this problem?

ableton live 5
lots of free plugins
pc laptop
indigo i/o
mackie 824's
doepfer pocket control and little cheap MIDI controller keyboard

that's it, these days. i've scaled way back. a couple good mics and a cheap preamp for the radio show and sampling. still lots of bent toys around for the occassional squak.

corey

Have not had that problem but have had different issues with my M Audio FW410 unit. Overall i like the M Audio gear but wish i had spent a bit more on a MOTU unit or something.

there might be a ground loop problem- feedback going out of your lappy through the ground on the plug, through the mains of your house to your instrument, and through the audio lead to the latop again.

Have you tried taking the ground wire off an extension lead an using that to plug your audio stuff into? Cheapest (and most dangerous) way of fixing the problem!

you could also buy a ground loop isolator from maplins, £6ish

This shouldn't happen on the m audio though, it has balanced (xlr) inputs doesn't it?

Yeah so do i...the motu 828's rock...oh well...

@Andy...ill give that a bash...don't really want to burn the house down tho!!!
Im not too hot on electroncis...but you know you can hear your hard drive ticking over when nothing's plugged in, i just assumed that it was that and the noise was leaking out thru the firewire port...it doesnt leak through line out on the computer tho...ill try one of those grounding isolator jobs from maplins...does it just plug in to the mains?

Would like to get my monitors sorterd first...

You can pick up the 828's fairly cheap now second hand...am considering selling the 909 to fund some new monitors...or a TC Powercore...

no ground loop isolators plug into the audio leads. they are designed for car audio but you can use em indoors too.

just uscrew the plug and disconnect the green and yellow, wrap a bit of tape around the end and bob's your uncle.

Any devices marked with Image are double insulated and don't need earths anyway...

it's a pretty low risk, if your worried just reconnect when you're done testing...

Andy - if i plug my soundcard into the firewire port - then in to my Mackie you can hear the nastiness...that's even before ive plugged anything else in!!

Is this still a ground issue with the Lappy? If so ill take a plug apart tonight and see if it changes anything...

A J_J - Powerbooks Rule!!!

Whats the M Box like?
