If you just want them for general listening, then there's no advantage in having monitors really.

Could just use a hi fi system or a PA system. Probably give you more sound than £100's worth of monitors :)

Valid point but after listening to audio on those headphones he bought hes really not going to be up for listening to sub-par audio through a cheap hi fi!

or cheap monitors though surely?

For £100 you could get an alright hi fi from cash converters or somewhere like that I would have though.

They won't say anything unless you're under the impression that you have to have everything as loud as it can go, pretty sure 125w speakers can be as quiet as some 10w speakers (just turn them off if you don't believe me).

Yeah, no need to get monitors for djing and general listening. If you're not going to use them for production purposes, then you might as well go for an oldish hi-fi system. In the old days it was all about the Jamos and Kenwood/Yamaha ams. That shit's practically unbreakable, and well cheep nowadays too!

cheers for the advice, think i'll go for bookshelf speakers though, something a bit smaller. the Roth Audio OLi1's look good.
