man apples are way too expensive

u can get the base model of any of their products and u can build a stupidly better spec wise pc for the same.

like it would be nice to have a really quick mac but a lot of $$.

I would recommend you look at a decent pc laptop.

ive always had a desktop til last week, now i can write tunes anywhere.

its worth a few extra pennies to go portable.

i never work off battery but being able to bring ur laptop to peoples house and to work is great. cubase is the same as wen u were sitting in ur house.

i have a desktop myself but some people like the mobility of laptops, i was just advising that if he wanted to take that route. i have friends that refuse to have desktops due to the space they take

Build your own tower ffs.

2x the laptop
2x the Apple for the price.

Production only?

4gb ram
Dual core, or wait for th i7 chipset to drop in price.
XP or stfu. (or fuckloads of RAM and 64bit Vista)
Decent PSU & cooling system
Some fuck off MoBo
Decent soundcard
Some UADs
Cheap, but effective graphics card
Dual widescreens, or a monster 32" monitor.

case, personally i'd go with a rackmount
mobo/cpu - http://search.pricewatch.com/motherboar ... _fan-0.htm i'd go with the asus
ram get 4gb maxed out for xp
hard drives your call but sata is fast and cheap
onboard grfx card should suffice
http://endpcnoise.com/ for fans and internal treatment
the rest i'd sink into a badass audio/midi interface

I recently built a MONSTER of a pc for 800 quid.

Just do some reasearch and you can find out what to buy.

specs are

E8400 3.0 Ghz dualcore
4gig 800mhz RAM
NVidia 9800 GX2 (was the fastist card on the market when i bought it)
500gig 10,000rmp HD
22" flatscreen
Loads of blue lights
A snazzy case
and around 70 frames a second in Crysis on ultra high settings.

Now for production you dont need a monster of a graphics card - so that instantly cuts off about 200 quid. You also dont need the snazzy case and extra LEDs and fans I bought for mine, so thats another 50 - 100 quid cut off.

I also bought a gaming keyboard so if you just buy a bogstandard one, you save 40 quid.

Just do some reasearch, check out places like

novatech.com
overclockers.co.uk

you can really build a sik PC for next to nothing these days, ESPECIALLY if you are not after cutting edge technology - and by that I mean the biggist graphics card and the fastist quad core money can buy.
