Songs you listen to for inspiration?

Post by legend4ry » Sun Feb 01, 2009 10:19 pm

And why?

I'll start it off..

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1g09GzbctlA - Stone Roses - I Wanna Be Adored

Pure, raw energy.. put headphones on, lean back, close your eyes.. by the time Ian Brown says "I gotta be adored" if you don't smile let alone brock out., i'll be shocked!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=UJkeVkYq8Es - Radiohead - Optimistic

Same as above, the "Da nah nah nah nah" bit always makes me smile. Pulled from one of the best albums ever..

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=UFRrwBQxjbI - Joy Division - Shadow Play

The guitar and the vocals how they sound the way the drums have been mastered.. the energy again, so amazing.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bp2hKfi1B60 - Portishead - Elysium

....... is all I can see to that, perfection in my eyes.... the break down is just amazing, then the.. .."and its your............." BOOM .. *shakes head* amazing.

Bar9 - Murda Sound

&

Calyx - Warrior

...at the moment, because I want to work on my basslines.

Modest Mouse - Ocean Breathes Salty - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZE-ML-BAAfY - moment at 2:46 - 2:48 and guitar layering.

Xiu Xiu - I Luv The Vally OH - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4UVJM6m5po - kickass bassline overall and sense of space starting at 2:05.

Proem - I Don't Know How To Tell - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FbjE_jb ... re=related - atmosphere is great and killer synths.

Jawbreaker - First Step - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7xUscfRsqM - actually almost anything by Blake Schwarzenbach is basic input (1 guitar, 1 bass, 1 drumset, 3 chords / power chords) and output is simply phenomenal.

i sometimes find listening to something different completely then coming back to making dub tunes helps immensely.
sometimes i'll just get the guitar out, play some heavy riffage or some chilled bluesy licks, not make beats for 3 days or so, then when I come back to it I get a huge wave of inspiration.

EDIT: Oh yeah, songs XD. Metallica's master of puppets album, BB King's "thrill is gone", and anything by Machine head

Hard dnb such as current value and limewax.

Dj hype - Closer to god.

I watch alot of live metal gigs.

seeing the crowd react to the band can give me goosebumps.

also videos of andy C mixing makes me wanna mix. the guy is a machine
