babalou in brixton have a night on 27 feb - cooly g and some others. not sure how regular a thing tho. no hats no hoods type.
(fwiw overall sense i get w funky is of a pretty sharp division btw local funky nights like this - champagne/more soulful/proper shoes - and night slugs/fwd types - no champagne/more basslines/trainers)

yep that's pretty much it but i think the two will come together a bit on the 27th. that's what cooly's hoping for anyway.rachel wrote:babalou in brixton have a night on 27 feb - cooly g and some others. not sure how regular a thing tho. no hats no hoods type.

good to hear, see how it pans out o nthe 27th. was wondering if the gap would/could be bridged by individual producers w feet in both camps - i know cooly references dubstep as a style she's aiming at bringing through in her productions. i spose the demographics of it all bother me a little bit - like night slugs/fwd as safer option for those who wouldn't be too keen on going to yr average local funky do....
it is interesting. i mean nite slugs was a really young and dare i say 'hipster' crowd, most of which i'd suspect would never go to a 'proper' funky dance for a variety of reasons.rachel wrote:good to hear, see how it pans out o nthe 27th. was wondering if the gap would/could be bridged by individual producers w feet in both camps - i know cooly references dubstep as a style she's aiming at bringing through in her productions. i spose the demographics of it all bother me a little bit - like night slugs/fwd as safer option for those who wouldn't be too keen on going to yr average local funky do....
the funky house thing has been geared up to the 'mature raver' by its own admission. sort of as a reaction against the hype of grime. but with that coming back and the music appealing on very similar levels i'm curious to see where it will go.
i really rather looking forward to the 27th although i do have to invest in some shoes.
