The Truth about Fruity Loops Topic

Post by enfant » Thu Feb 12, 2009 11:58 am

Allright im having recurring nightmares about the FL discussion.
For once and all, whats your main critique of it and what do you like about it?

This.

I can't understand, for the love of all that is holy, why people ask which host is better and what not. I could go on and rave about how cool Ableton Live is or how intuitive and easy-to-get-things-down reason is, but at the end of the day you could hate them both.

You just have to try them all and decide for yourself which is better.

Yeah it's all personal really, I really can't stand fruityloops at all, the synths and effects do actually sound like shit and the whole way it's laid out just looks and feels like some crappy toy production software like ejay or something like that.

the synths in fl are fine imo,
anyway it's a wonderful program. the upside to the misconceptions about fl is that you can easily amaze stupid people with tunes you made with it

I think people hear the name "Fruity Loops" and kind of naturally dismiss it as rubbish haha. Like it has been said, DAWs are mostly the same, it's just preference.

The synth & fx are fine. Synth & fx that come with DAW's are never really that good anyway and most people use 3rd party plugins. Automation is also easier in FL than most other DAW's so I can't see how you see it as fiddly. The only problems I see with FL are that it's not too good for working in audio (cubase is a good example as to why not) and there's no multichannel support. It's falls short of other DAW's in a lot of areas but it's one of the most intuitive applications I've ever used and it's the best thing out there for getting ideas down (instant startup etc).

the name sucks but ALOT of big names use it

it's all about the end result

if you can make hot tunes on the prog, then it'll do

people overthink shit way too much

It supports audio clips, has 2 ways of doing automations, supports VSTs, is faster than most other DAWs, the bundled plugins are dope, what's not to like?

According to the Computer Music magazines review, it has things that other big name daws lack. One example is the ability to input mathmatical functions to process the sound. :o

FL was the first program I used after Rebirth, and even though I never really made any tunes in it, I certainly found it easier than Reason to learn.

Like any software, the more time one spends using it and exploring the secret options, the better it becomes as a tool for making baddass basslines! :)
