Yeah, back in the day, there were a number of little villages, all within very close proximity of one another. Every single one was called 'Leed'. Countless wars were fought and lives were lost in trying to determine whose village was the true Leed.
Then in 1727, a young man, whose name escapes me at the moment, had travelled up from down south where everyone is very friendly. He simply couldn't understand why so much blood was being shed over a village name. So, he called a meeting with the leaders of each village and drew up an alliance. At first, there was very little progress, but as we all know, progress is a slow process. That friendly southerner just didn't give up.
So, in 1728, after hours and hours of meetings, offers and counter offers, all of the villages named Leed were joined up together. The name of this wonderous new place - so full of hope for a peaceful future? Leeds.*
*All of this is bollocks.
