yea man i always get unexpected responses, theres tunes i think will go off big style that ppl dont really dance much to, and ones that i only think are average that ppl go absolutely apeshit too. and this differs every place you go to so you never know what to play, which is why i adopted the mix as quick as humanly possible and try and throw a bit of everythin in there and keep ppl happy technique of djin. yea i love goin to see djs live esp when they got fresh shit in their bag that u never heard before.bearfreshener wrote:hello stenchman,
when you play out new songs of yours live, do you ever get responses that you werent expecting?
Also. Do you enjoy going to see dubstep djs live yourself?
thanks

hahaha i do get on the mic occasionally, depends how rowdy im feeling lol. was all in the mood up there!Roistermusic wrote:big up stenchman...u killed it in faversham in leeds last week, never knew u like to get on the mic!!
got a few questions,
1)any change of a screen shot of an arrangement your working on?
2)when it comes to bass on reason, how much (many) fx un its do you use, if any?...like straight from the synth?
i find myself putting a scream on everything and usaully a bit on unison for a bit of detuning
3) how do you normally make ur subs?
cheers
looking forward to the tru tiger stuff
screen shot -

fx units i usually have a unison, chorus, reverb and scream routed to the mixer, and assign little bits on each track to em to beef everything up, but then sometimes i use other screams and reverbs directly chained to other instruments and only use the unison on the mixer so i can give bits a distinct flavour. this probably makes no sense i havent explained myself very well im a bit lean you see.
subs is easy, simple sine with a low pass, maybe fuck about with the attack or release dependin on what the mid bass is doin, usually big release for when its punchy and theres loads of big gaps, and big attack when its constant note to note bizness, jus so theres some kind of balance.

Oi oi Stench.
loving your tunes man.
How did you go about getting your first record out and getting known when you first started producing dubstep? Was you approached or did you send demos or did you release it yourself?
Also do you make your own drum samples in redrum? or are they preset or from sample packs.
cheers

dunno really how to give tips to progress, its just something u do by keeping at it really, as for drops and build ups, i try and keep some recurring theme from the drop in the build up, but on a lighter scale if you know what i mean, so it hints at whats coming but dont give up the game too much, when you actually drop it make sure it comes with a bang, have either a cymbal or some fx that hit with the drop, to give a sense of impact. also use big sweeps just before it comes in to give it a good feelTheRZBM wrote:now im in here might as well ask something, i've just started out, few weeks in. got any tips to progress, and any tips on drops and building it up etc cheers

anywhere between 4-6 mins is the norm for dubstep id say. who cares about whats normal tho? make it as long as u like, if it aint boring after 10 mins ur onto something bigR wrote:Yes I finally made up a question thats useful to me !!!!!!!![]()
How long are the most dubplates ? Like if i wanna release a dubplate how much do the label expect the track should be. Like in house mostly the tracks are in 6 - 8 minutes. How long are they in our dubstep world !?
