dark garage from like.. 03-04, naturally progressed.. Then started to produce and felt myself drifting away from dubstep
funny that.

Well.......
I started listening to drum n bass in late 2007, since I didn't really know what it was all about, but wanted to find out. A friend and I had decided to explore more musical genres. He, however, was already into dubstep. I had not given much attention to it, and thought it used too much "half steps" in its melodies.
Then, Benga and Coki came out with "Night". I had taken interest in the sound of it, and decided to plunge myself into the genre. I got Pinch's DJ mix "Tectonic Plates - Tha Mix!" and loved everything I heard. I then started off trying to find what I could, and well....now its my favorite genre at the moment.
I love how it is rapidly expanding and evolving, yet is so present. I used to be decades back, shunning the majority of new music, preferring to listen to old Basic Channel or Cocteau Twins records. Nice to be apart of something like this today.

Meh, looking at some of these posts makes me wish that I had gotten into it the same time my friend got into it, which was late 2006. Scene was much smaller in San Francisco. I remember when Skream played to an 18+ (or was it all ages I think it was that since we were 17) crowd here and my friend was very bummed to had miss it. I could sort of understand, but didn't really. My fucking god, what a show I missed. I guess I was too busy trying to find that Chain Reaction release or whatever obscure dub techno or techno release I could get. I guess I usually get into stuff later.

well one of my mates was trying to get me into dubstep for a couple of years and i was having none of it! was listening to mixing and running club nights playing dutch/italian hardstyle then i split up with my ex of four year the hardstyle scene started dying in manchester so i started looking for something different and got a copy of dubstep allstars volume 5 and the rest is history

I'm trying hard to define my music style but.......... Down right granny raping filth just isn't enough!!!

I bought Burial's EP with Southern Comfort on it... started checking on-line shops and places. Every time wobble threw me off the scent something decent would turn up to keep my interest. I know lots of peeps lament the fact that Dubstep has diversified a lot from it's garage/grime/whatever roots, but it's the different styles tied toegether by bass that I like.

Very recently really... I stumbled across Convoy / Scum by Marlow in Hard to find Records (Birmingham) and fell in love with Scum.
The rest is history.
Although at a Valve ngiht in The Custard Factosy they had Hopsitality in the 2nd room and Shopgun in the 3rd room - and I was captivated by John (Rust) set... that got me into DJing to be fair -although I spin drum and bass.
