dubstep and grime
agreed.seckle wrote:don't be absurd. there's no dubstep against grime vibes. theres no haters either.
if you start making these divisions then thats your view on it.
if you want to separate the scenes into camps then you're disrespecting everything that rinse.com, darkside, chefal and all the other hardworking people have been doing for years now. without rinsefm none of us would be here talking about grime/dubstep "scenes" at all.

this is EXACTLY what myself and alex bok-bok and a sadly limited number of other heads have been saying the whole time! it's only people on this forum repeatedly saying they want no grime with their dubstep, thank you, that have prompted this slightly unpleasant defensiveness!seckle wrote:don't be absurd. there's no dubstep against grime vibes. theres no haters either.

I love my Dubstep and I love my Reggae so it's all about good vibes with me. I do like some Grime tunes such as Virus Syndicate's stuff but I don't feel some of the angrier lyrics. Obviously not all Grime's lyrics are about killing people etc but I don't feel much need to mix the genres. I usually drop a grime tune or 2 in a dubstep set but I wouldn't want a whole set with a Grime MC. I've not heard many Dubstep MCs, only Pokes an Crazy D but I think their styles fit the music well. Pokes especially knows when to say something to add to the vibe and is a funny geeza to top it off.
i dont want grime with my dubstep, same way i dont want d&b with my dubstep, or r&b.
i dont hate it i just dont think they have to be billed as cousins or sisters if it makes you bruckout then thats all i care about, everyone has to be able to pidgeon hole everything. dubstep aint instrumental grime same as grime aint vocal dubstep, we can coexist but one dont need the other to progress .its about gettin passionate about your sound .
its not a disrespect blood , and i conceed to being overly stereotypical, but as i said educate me (and thats not arms like it sounds ,mans genuine)
its all vibes at the enders.

i actually really enjoy reading about grime on this forum because i dont have any other contact with it. i like some of it quite a bit but cant be bothered with those shows on rinse with people yelling throughout. thats about the most abrasive thing i can think of.... so prefer to get it here.
heard that 'together' tune with wiley & ruff sqwad (which is fucking Classic) from the bok-bok helium mix and prob would not have ever heard it otherwise. so.
about the hypeness in the dance...i will completely lose my head and start skanking wildly just from hearing a deep tune like egyptic or bluenotez. so thats enough for me.
i like to write silly rhymes from time to time myself. you know, about good green grass, getting good ass...but i cant think of any dubstep tunes that would sound better with that sort of nonsense over it.
out to spaceape. backwards is next level still.

^^^ Yeah Wiley and Ruffsquad together is a big tune.... I used to play that when it first dropped!!
When I first got a proper show on Rinse it was after Rolldeep Crew for about a year and a half, then Ruffsquad got the show so I now about Grime. I used try and bridge the gap between Dubstep and Grime to show
the people that were locked in to rolldeep a moment ago that just because there aint mc's on top of the tunes and some of its dark with twisted basslines that Dubstep aint no crackhead music and is a bit more similar than they thought, it converted nuff people.
I understand totally exactly what Pokes is saying.
No one aint hating grime, fuck sake Dubstep's been hated on from the beginning nearly as much as I've been hated on because of my colour but I couldn't give a fuck.
IMO there's shit grime and there's shit Dubstep, just because someone's called there tune Dubstep doesnt mean it's good.
But i believe there's just alot more stronger Dubstep out there right now, more than ever.
The Grime scene is about the MC alot more so than it is the music and DJ, I thought that what a rave was, two decks, records and DJ to keep you grooving all night long.
Now it's all eyes on the mc with the big ego trying to get a reload which is shit and that's where it fell off, i've come to accept it but still see the good in it though.
I like Grime coz it's a channel for the youth to talk their minds without putting on a fake american accent and represent what it's really like for people that dont know how it is on the roads... But alot of mc's chat shit with no real meaning. Believe there are some real mc's and alot more who are fake, but why say you'll kill a man and shot white by the Kilo, when reality is you go Uni and have a part time job in Tescos, personally I think its good to do something good with your life, why act dumber than you really are..
The best example of grime done well for me is Newham Generals and Tubby, that's how it should be done. D Double E's lyrics are entertaining.
Narstie from NAA is a good mc, he's real and talks about real shit thats hapnin and paints a picture. When someone is spitting or whatever i wanna be able to visualise it like I can when I listen to Notorious BIG.
I do what I do coz I like playing good tunes with bass and substance, but there aint alot of bass in Grime at the moment and I need bass.
The way i sum it up nowadays for myself is...
For every grime tune i think is decent and think about playing... I've got a tune on Dub that I'd have to play before that, infact i've got loads...
Peace for now

Personally I've never liked any genre where mc's lyrics prevail over the music itself, that's why I don't like hip hop since it stopped being electro, and that's why I don't like most D&B, so I've never been really into grime, although there are a little things that I like (well, I don't really know much of it). My English is rubbish, so most of the time I don't understand what I'm hearing, but if I understood something like "every time you see me wearing the glove, boy better know i got the gun in my boxers.." would make me leave the place, turn off the radio, or stop listening wherever I am.
That said, I'm happy to see people like Pokes and Chef think that way, that means at least part of the scene is moving in the right direction (I mean, the direction I liked to).

the anti grime doomsday cult..
woe it has been foretold..the first sign will be the removal of the great sceptre from the body of the plastic folk..next there will be a tirade of ill feeling from the place where the dub treads in text and word, words will be turned against the purveyors of warlike chants.. and so, with no talk of shanks to keep the devils at bay the world did end..

When I made the post that started this whole rant by poax, I mentioned that JME's "Tapped" was probably my favourite track of the year.
I didn't think that was a very merky track at all.
I didn't mean to scare anyone by giving people the impression I think dubstep should BECOME grime. In fact, I like the idea of being able to hear just straight good-vibes dubstep and some "ongulus bongulus"es thrown on top or whatever. I just really like where grime and dubstep meet.
