Absolutely, I hate it when it's just a laptop set with no external hardware & the guy just looks like he's checking his emails. YAWN.

Biggup to bass clef for trumpeting.

When I play live I bring a variety of: Steeldrum, Mbira, bass guitar (sometimes), Air FX, this wierd little string thing I don't even know what it's called & a laptop (& CD's for backup.)

To matey a few posts ago - how is vinyl DJ'ing so hugely superior to laptop dj-ing? Unless you're using just dubplates then at the end of the day you're still mixing someone elses tunes, as opposed to ones you've written yourself.

IMO the writing & production of a tune is the holy grail, not usually the method of delivery. Certain blistering live sets aside (Roni Size, Prodigy, Orbital, Visionary Underground etc)

A good tune in a club or party is a good tune. Personally if I'm on a night out & dancing like a nutbag I don't give a fuck if it's from Vinyl, Laptop, CD or totally live - If I can get down to it it's all good.

A lot of big names just use CD mixers anyway most of the time (eg Freq Nasty - I sat next to him on the train down to a gig once & he told me)

this has been going on for donkeys. the old rave types used to mime to DAT. At least they had an excuse, no ableton/laptops then.

My mate used to take his Sony 750 remote to gigs (by far the most popular DAT then) and randomly press play/rewind/f-forward etc :lol::lol::lol:

I at least 'play' ableton live when i do gigs....

I have actually seen a greek hip-hop "band" play "live" once and they had the classic 2 turntables + 2 mics setup on the top of the table and a
CDJ100 underneath and the "DJ" used to pop a cd in the CDJ with prerecorded beats and scratches on it and then pretended to beatjuggle and scratch live. He had 2 records on the decks and the twat was actually moving the records back and forth and the crossfader was moving back and forth like crazy but there in plain sight channel 1 and 3 in his 3ch mixer were completely down while the middle (CDJ) was the only one open. The funniest part was that it was a tiny gig and everything was clearly visible to anyone even slightly in the know.
The only way to make a musical moment last forever is to pass it through a delay with the feedback control set to maximum and let it play on and on to infinity. This is also the best way to burn your speakers and the moment won't stay musical for long ...

Theres another photo of him looking confused and a photo right after with him putting the cable back in. They used to have a little photo album on their myspace explaining it.

probably the clubowner noticed that or somebody else told him. The owner will tell it to other clubowners and he wont be booked anymore. Same fatality for Switch
