Studio Monitors

Post by n_symon » Wed Feb 25, 2009 2:04 am

Hey Everyone,

This is Nick from Chicago. I'm new to the forum and have a question about studio monitors. I'm basically putting together my audio set-up, getting software and midi-controller, etc. I'm going to be producing stuff that uses heavy bass: I'm into miami bass, crunk and southern rap, dubstep, etc. I'm looking at studio monitors, and I'm basically trying to find something on craigslist that's not too expensive. I've located a pair of M-Audio Studiophile Bx5a monitors that are really cheap.

Does anyone have any advice regarding my choice of monitors? Or, since I'm doing bass-heavy stuff, does my choice of monitors not make a huge difference as long as I get a sub-woofer along the way?

Also, has anyone used an novation xio synth? I'm thinking of getting one of those. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Well there's a happy end to this story-- I got a pair of KRK RP5's for about 218.00, this is with shipping and all. Can't wait to get started with the production...

Tapco S8's are worth a look mate. I got a pair of these last year and cant really fault them. Bass response is excellent.

I got them from Musician's Friend but they don't have the rp-5 g1's anymore, only the rp-6's and rp-8's for the first generation line. For new units I think they have some of the best prices I've seen yet...so you should definitely check them out.

I actually just saw a deal for a pair of open box rp-5 g2's for 234.00 from Unique Squared...which is actually a better deal than what I got, although they are 'open box', which probably doesn't mean too much...so whoever's looking better get on that before it's too late!
