Uninspired

Post by wirez » Mon Mar 02, 2009 5:39 pm

I've hit a downer with my production the last week... Really can't seem to get inspired enough and it fucks with my head coz music is me...

I know everyone gets these, wonder if anybody gets them regularly enough to learn how to get yourself out of the box you know?!

Also, another question irrelevant to the first... How many people do their mix with a limiter on, and how many people limit after bouncing?!

Personally I limit after bouncing,

if you find it hard to write then work on engineering, leaning how to mix better so when you do get that idea you can produce it as best as you can.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Writer%27s_block

yesterday i read an interview with skream from 2005, and i'm sure he mentioned something about having writer's block at that time.. doesnt seem like it was permanent though :D
in the wiki article it says that its closely related to depression (as far as i remember), and i guess depression at this time of the year is usually caused by.. err.. this time of the year. winter sucks.

when uninspired that's the best time to work on making some new patches, breaks, drum kits, etc
that way when you do get inspired you have your own pool of premade stuff to use

great idea, thats what I've been doing lately when I have writers block, not only does it inspire me more to start a track, but it's helpful for when I do

I know how to mix thanks bro lol, I've always limited afterwards up until lately and experimented with it on because I know a few people who do it...

Lol I am diagnosed depressed and paranoid :\ but surely it's not just us 'depress-heads' that get writers block :P

Cheers for the article man, I love reading things on wiki, always click on links and pass hours and hours lol.

Not to laugh at your misfortune, but it feels better for me to know that I'm not the only one lol.

It all started for me by some friggin online game called Second Life, since I've started playing it I've gone well off track lol.

I went into a studio booth at college today and stole loads of audio from random people I don't know, it's got me quite inspired to know I'm going to be ripping off some poor people who haven't had a chance to copyright their material officially yet muahahahaha

I have made anything worth finishing in a few months. Kinda sucky. It's like I am looking for the new angle to work on. I have always been like this tho. I will write in bunches then for a while nothing.

ONE WEEK?

TWO WEEKS???

I go months without being inspired

it's just part of the program

not a big deal at all

when I "cant" make tunes, I focus on my dj'ing

when I can't do either...

I work on the label stuff

always busy, just not always inspired to be creative

Yeah i've had writers block for two weeks now, just started to come out of it n got a really solid idea. I'd say the usual remedies would be a film that inspires you or it's usually cured when you get some females in ur life :P

but yeah i stuck with film :|

First post in this forum, been producing minimal techno and house and starting to get more and more into dubstep.

But anyways, writers block is something that's happening to me from time to time, and the way i cope with it is to take a pause from producing. Normally i spend at least one hour per day sitting in front of the computer but when i don't feel inspired i just don't feel like producing, so i don't. I spend my time listening to records, hanging out with friends, reading magazines, and after about two weeks i find myself in front of the computer again, maybe not producing but just designing sounds and flapping around and then i get an idea and it's like the writers block never happened.
So my advice to you is to take a break, and focus on other stuff. Doesn't matter what it is, as long as you don't try to force yourself to produce when you know it's not going good at all. You will get out of it and you will have more fun then ever just producing.

Good luck mate

best thing i could suggest is to listen to as many different kinds of music as you can (especially stuff you dont usually listen to)
