I've started taking the new drug called Chantix that just came out. It makes you not think about it as much. I can go 4 or 5 hours without even thinking about smoking (where I used to smoke once or twice an hour before). Plus it makes cigarettes taste like shit. Other than that, I am sticking with sugar free gum and suckers and using the patch.

Yeah my brothers girlfriend finished that book about 2 weeks ago and hasn't sparked up yet. It's surposed to be quite good.Peaches wrote:I actually have a book that is called 'How to give up smoking the proper way' or something like that.
Basically, you read a chapter each night and it stops you from smoking.
*puts out cigarette* Obviously, I haven't started reading it yet. xD
Well guys, havent smoked a cigarette in three days now! Im very happy that im still holding on! Ofcourse some moments i really need a cigarette but i try to keep my mind away from it with food (snacks and candybars). Watching a movie also helps!! Seriously, when im watching a movie im completely focused and dont think about smoking a cig.
1 Problem: 2night im going out again cause its carnival, so hopefully i still wont touch a cigarette. When drinking i love to smoke, a wonderful combination. We'll see how it goes!!

Wobble Wobble...
Good thread.
Try and fail countless times over a period of years, to build up the self loathing. Catch a cold. Go on a three day drink and drugs bender, have a threesome, wake up with a fever, feel like you've got malaria for a week, then when you've get enough strength bakc to be able to listen to new age music, attend work, and possibly eat, becaisally just do that for three months and nothing else, as far away from alcohol or your friends, the pub, or cigarettes as possible. Watching movies is ok. Six months later you are allowed to tell everyone how fucking brilliant you are for quitting and how crap they are because of it, LOSERS!

the first 3 days are the worst generally.
no matter what- DO NOT SMOKE!
buy some black licorice or natural licorice sticks (you can find them in health food stores) and chew when the urge strikes.
take showers with a loofah sponge in order to clean off the dead skin cells that have remnants of nicotine.
another thing i did is write every time I wanted to smoke. I wanted something to do with my hands and to not be bored- so often writing helped. Also get some exercise in the day.
I haven't smoked in over 3 years I feel great, save money etc.

Quit smoking?
I dislike the whole habitual-walking-home-from-work cravings. Or the i've-just-had-a-huge-meal-time-for-the-most-enjoyable-smoke-ever.
I hardly miss the taste / smell / money it cost me at all, infact I hate it. Nicorette gum sorts it out, although it's the cravings above that need tackling.
Thoughts?
EDIT:
Tried some Tobacco replacement the other day. Well, I bought some. Never in my life did I expect some respected head shop to sell cut up grass and flowers. It burned but it was awful.

Read my edit. I'm still smoking that with the trusted Mayfair lights, although that needs to be out too. Can't afford to smoke pure these days, plays with the head too much.

Attempting to give up smoking..
I don't wanna hear any shit like "you're not gonna do it"
"bet you don't give up" ...it's shit like that which demotivates people and prevents them giving up.
But have any of you successful quitters any tips? Would be greatly appreciated

Re: Attempting to give up smoking..
I smoked for 5 years, then when I was movin out of the parents house realised how expensive and pointless a habit it was I decided to stop, with the aid of this book :
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Allen-Carrs-Eas ... 0140277633
Found it so easy! Went out that weekend, partied from Friday through to Monday, blazin drunk for most of it and the thought hardly crossed my mind. Somethin about readin that book triggered off somethin that made me find it dead easy to suddenly just go without.
Worth a try, considerin it'll cost the around same as a pack of cigarettes!
(Oh and yes, cigarettes are gay. Its a fact)

Well by the sounds of it you may have the power to quit cold turkey within you anyway, but still recommend readin the book as it really educates you about smoking and abolishes all the myths as to why you think you enjoy it.
And anyone who feels the need to put a patch on is bein conned big time! As a physical addiction, nicotine is one of the easiest to get out your system
