Fela Kuti and the Africa 70 are one of my all time favourite outfits, i own only a couple of their albums but they have been played to within an inch of their lives

some of the biggest grooves ever put down on record

The Tony Allen albums with the Africa 70 are the best things they did in my mind. Tony Allen is ridiculously good, they had him on the Culture Show demonstrating how he could drum a different beat with each limb!

best way to do it: play the Masters At Work versions!

They've re-worked (al least) 2 tunes back in 2000, very respectful to the originals and sounding quite close, but with a nice club tip and constant BPM...

if you wanna play tony allen /fela afrobeat tunes in your set, just do it, i ve dropped them a lot of times ive played out and they go down well, especially as a warm up if your sound is more afro/latin led.
