What *other* countries' scenes do you rate?

Post by joe muggs » Wed Mar 11, 2009 11:00 am

OK I've worded this question carefully so that it doesn't become some stupid UK vs US thing... I'm just curious about where dubstep is really bubbling... obviously a lot of DJs are playing round the world, so I want to know, where are the crowds most responsive? Where is the scene really tight and supportive? I'm not interested in people bigging up their own scenes - I want to hear from outsiders which places have suprised them or blown them away.... Holland? Austria? Japan? NZ? Where's exciting at the moment?

I rate the french scene alot, they put on some quality nights in Paris and is slowly exanding to places like Lyon, Lille and Bordeaux.

Iv experienced some of the best dubstep nights in Paris. Melting Point and Basement Ltd are definately recomended for any UK, Belgium, Holland heads.

Also you got one of the most consistant labels in the scene in 7even quality releases from quality producers like Helixir, Likhan and my personal favourite F he is a sick producer. You also have Von D and Mackoall.

Big shout out to people, like Greg G, Synaptic and Subrider who I think have had a massive input in the dubstep scene in France.

Really good music is coming from everywhere. There's a lot of it in Eastern Europe, Canada, all over the US, Australia, and obviously Russia ;)

And I'm thinking Japan and possibly China..

Loads of amazing stuff coming out of Texas, check at Outlaw Producer's mix, A Tour of Texas Dubstep at http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.p ... highlight=

Any time you see anything by VVV or FBOM, jump on it, these guys are both set to be massive news this year.

best non-UK gigs I've done over the last year or so have been Auckland and Lisbon. Auckland was just looney - couldn't play hard enough! and as for the Lisbon crew (big up Tass Bass :D ) they kept telling me how dubstep was really new in Portugal and how no-one really gets it there (this was last week) but the crowd were super up-for-it, well good show. Playing in Timisoara next week and have heard nothing but good things about that, too...

I hear the UK's on a hype ting.
That and SF should be its own republic of bass, like Luxembourg.

The AOD Crew in Sweden is tuff! huge parties.

Also The French Dubstep Producer Meeting july 08! Really huge and wicked party.

Also big up to Bunzero, saw him last march in Bruxelles, with Ruckspin if i remember correctly @ Bota Stereo. Very good vibes in there.
