Tis true, but when you go to the shop and the same thin vinyl is so warped you can barely cue it...must vouch for something

it was the one on hyperdub... i received a replacment (thank's to redeye!) but same bad quality... both copys exact the same scratches and noises...!

word yeah bro that was the bad batch. may wanna let red eye know again. from what kode9 stated about 200 or so (i think!) copies got a crap press but the others were OK

i think a thin vinyl is not so bad as a bad pressing is!

My ears aren't really "trained" yet, so simple question: what's wrong with the mastering of Road Rage? And well, Debt, maybe it's just a little bit over-bassed

Also, I don't really have records that sound bad, but I did get some records (random trio, tempa, ...) with the middle hole to small. Easy to fix. Also, I cut myself with Zomby EP, sharp edges!

well, i have heard of some people downloading mp3's with some shrill ass white noise stabs in them if this is any consolation

although usually it can be fixed with a re-DL...

it sucks how a large(?) run of pressings can be thrown out into the market with shit quality, you would think that there would be some kind of protocol where responsibility needs to be taken and repress cost absorbed by the 'responsible' party.

i still play only vinyl... and it sucks knowing you're gambling when ordering out for wax the locals don't have... or making them order out for you and having to buy with no preview.

also, recently i bought a re-press of an old 70's record, it was sealed, and when i got home there was a nate-dogg disc inside. weird. not even from the same press or distro... the store replaced my copy though.

every Urban Graffiti press and Mata-Syn bar UG 001 has gone through Transition Mastering and as far as i am concerned Jason is the most consistent. Top quality and always relays info.

Here's a tid bit that will hold you in good stead. Your Master will only be as good as the relationship you have with the person behind the controls, and pick some descent vinyl and a place that can look after your metal work - you wouldn't buy a Ferrari and park it on Broad Water Farm

fwiw - my copy of Young Heartache is very crackly.

Ben Klock's One on Ostgut is a bit noisy as well.

I've noticed some Hyperdub 12"s are pressed just a wee bit off centre... Digidesign to name a recent one.

Also on Hyperdub - both Ikonika 12's seemed very flat (I mean the sound... not the vinyl).

It's not just the thickness of the vinyl that counts. As others have said - there are many different reasons for ropey sounding wax. The length of time that the metalworks are in contact with the blanks during pressing is an important factor. This can vary from 3 to 10 seconds.

I have some records from the 60s... on the Columbia label .. .to name but one... where they play perfectly... even though they look VG ... G or even Poor.
Those '60s Columbia cuts and presses were DEEP> The scratches don't seem to matter too much.

never had a problem with hyperdub myself, always thought there pressings have been top notch. Spesh my ikonika plate it sounds really really big.

Ive had problems with a couple of black acre releases spesh the Marlow one 'scum' with something else, such a big tune but carnt drop it on a system cus it sounds weak. Also my asbo is un mixable, not a good pressing at all. Agree with road rage and triple six is very quiet and bad quality, thought with that thick vinyl it was guna be awsome.

Tempa releases recently havnt been very good, seven sirens is not very good, also the new distance album i wasnt very impressed with. Its not a good look with so many people moving to cds and serato, i love my vinyl, but i wish there wud be some more thought into mastering tunes rather than just getting them out there.

One of the reasons I try to get to record shops as much as possible, allow ordering sumfin then getting a flimsy bit of wax in the post.

If you can go in 2 a shop, buy that way, its better!
