Technics 1210 mk2 vs. 1210 mk5 + Pickup question
Hi all.
I see there's a markedly price difference between the Technics 1210 mk2 and 1210 mk5 and also with the 1210 m5g, what do you get for the extra money?
I have a pickup question too. I'm probably going to start out playing some House with "easy" beats to begin with, then I want to move to oldschool hiphop / funky soul and rnb and I'm probably going to be trying out scratching too. So what pickup(s) do you recommend me?

The MK5's have quartz lock, sunken power on/off switch (this is handy) and better wiring in the tone arm I do believe, but don't quote me on that!
If you can afford them, buy them, but if not MK2's are still beautiful turntables and the differences aren't massive.
As for pickups, do you mean needles? If so these are very nice all round cartridges:

Hope this helps!

1210m5g's have these few things that the others dont:
sunken power knob
+/- 16 pitch (although you can just hit one button and go back to
the pitch is digital and i personally feel it holds pitch better than any other turntable i have used.
another anti-skating adjustment for scratch dj's (the most important improvement in my book)
and of course they look awesome.

here is what the panasonic site says directly.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm very glad you all took your time to recommend me different things and comment on each others advices.
If I'm going to purchase new turntables from the store, I have to go for the 1210 mk2, but otherwise I'll keep an eye out for good 1210m5g deals. The problem is that I also need Traktor, so I want the turntables to be as cheap as possiple.
I want to spent 1000$ tops, I'll borrow a mixer from a friend of mine and I've got some nice speakers with a good amplifier. I have lots of nice tunes at my computer so that's good. The Technics has to be very cheap you see. hehe

but if he's going to scratch, I reccomend the shure 447's
the fidelity isn't there but they are durable as fuck
and the MK5's have an expanded range of pitch as well
like +/- 16% or something like that whereas the 1210's are +/- 8 % <----Fixed

1215s?
1210s with +/-12%, are you modding them, tweak the internal timing pots, or just mental?
I'm mental!
I'm at work and I'm on some meds
I meant +/- 8 LOL
