Recycle does the job for me. Kontakt 2 is good for quick midi mapping of grains.

Def MAX/MSP for really pulling things apart.

You can't realy beat Pro-Tools for audio slicing and sequencing.. There should be a free version available on the net somewhere, if not then there's plenty of cracks going round.

If pro-tools aint your cup of cha then Cool edit pro is the next best thing.

Wedge there is no such thing as 'best thing'
most of the seq progs have similiar abilities - nowadays is just a case of 'the way u work' and quality of plugins and samples u use

Recycle for tight re-arrangments
Ableton Live is my main sequencer, makes chopping and stretching breaks real easy. But the sound it generally tighter if I use the old-skool method of slicing in recycle and then importing the samples into the sampler, then loading the MIDI file created by Recycle into the sequencer ... then u r free to re-arrange and re-pitch the break as you please with minimal loss of quality.

^^^^ elemental u can try phatmatik pro - it's like recycler being a VSTi plug and u can send slices to 4 different mixer channels (if ableton allows multichannel VSTi)

Sorry.. should have said 'in my opinion'. And i wasn't blaming mine or anyones tools, I was just trying to offer some useful advice.

fruity slicer..IF and only IF the loop yer chopping is same bpm as the song..(I've tried changing the bpm in the slicer..v.wierd and shit results)

b4 fruity slicer used to use a program called zeroX beatslicer..same rules apply..same bpm all the way

really??? i use fruity slicer with various bpm loops - for example 180bpm loop in a 140bpm track - no problem

I have used Acid Pro 4.0 for ages but I hate it. I am trying to get comfortable with Ableton Live. Audiomuch is a fun and free program that can use VST plug-ins. I also swear by Cool Edit. It's the shit.

a really quick way to chop up loops in ableton is to use the "sample offset" envelope. You can splurt new patterns out at a rate of ten per second then.

you can just cut them up by hand as audio in your sequencer and rearrange the slices that way.
