Taal Mala Bio:

Often described as un-categorizable, Taal Mala’s music is inspired by new ideas and classic standards, and takes influence from a diverse selection of both new and classic sounds. Genre-defying acts of synth genius and production lustre form a solid foundation for Taal Mala’s destruction of any soundboy who comes to test it. Dubstep, Grime, Jungle, Acid, Hardcore and Reggae are all partially responsible for the fusion that is created. As a member of the SUB-OSC and Lighta! soundsystems, Taal Mala has buried an excess of tin pan soundboys alongside The Bug, Kode9, Loefah, Venetian Snares, Rusko, Benga, Skream, Hatcha, Youngsta, Martyn…etc. Keep your eyes open for lighta! and SUB-OSC releases in Summer 2009.

Max Ulis Bio:

I’ve been djing for about 10 years and producing for around four. I got into Dubstep through my love of Jungle, Techno, and Grime (electronic music in general). I did a Grime weekly for about a year in Vancouver with a couple friends in 2004-’05. At around the same time grime was kinda falling off for me i spent a little time in London and picked up a couple 12’s like Coki “Officer”, Vex’d “Lion” and got really excited about the sound. I started blending these darker elements into my set and about half the people loved and the other half hated it. this went on for some time until michael red asked me to become part of lighta! and things started getting more interesting. We were playing parties that had dancehall, jungle, dub, glitch, and dubstep all on the same night and people were coming, and then alot of people were coming, and then all of a sudden we had a community. This community is what inspires me to make music.
I would like to add that i have a beard and I like waffles and long walks by the ocean, and hate bios.

Self Evident Bio:

Self Evident makes party music that fuses influences from all over the map. Most notably grime, dancehall, metal, club hip-hop and dubstep. He has collaborated with Warrior Queen on 2 soon to be released tunes. His tracks have been played by The Bug, Edu K, DJ Hatcha, Headhunter and Kid Kameleon. He has played alongside Caspa, The Bug, Excision and Maga Bo.

Daega Soundsystem Bio:

DAEGA Sound System Brothers Ben and Joshua Searles are the DAEGA Sound System. Djing and promoting for over 10 years they have turned their attention to the studio to develop their production project DAEGA Sound System. Also known as DJs Sela and Deep Six, they are reppin’ for Vancouver Lighta! crew and have just signed to Chefal’s SubFreq Label, Formant Recordings, and DPR Recordings. Their sets focus on the deep rollers and their music is described as “deep and heavy, intricate and spacious”. Live PA and DJ duo they are pushing the deeper end of dubstep, techno, drum and bass and other forms of electronic music.

Phowa Bio:

Phōwa’s work is a fusion of numerous sources of inspiration and sonic pallets yet still maintaining a uniquely enigmatic and personal sensibility. His sense of lo-fi textures and dynamics combine to create deeply immersive atmospheres blended with hypnotic melodic progressions grounded in heavy beats and thick basslines.

As a part of SUB-OSC, phōwa has been pushing bass heavy sounds up and down the west coast, appearing along side the likes of Skream, Loefah, Distance and Bassnectar. He has done remixes for Cheb I Sabbah and the Future Sound of London and has licenced music to films such as ‘Scared Sacred’ and ‘The Corporation.

How do you describe hexadecibel aka HxdB? Well, that’s easy. To describe this man’s music on the other hand, is not so easy…

The former, is a 30 year music lover, and recent re-initiate back in to the game of music creation, who along with fellow Canadian virtuoso, DJ Cure, manage Aufect Recordings (http://myspace.com/aufect) & Pressing Issues Recordings (http://pressing-issues.com). The latter is a mish-mash of superlatives and buzz words to attempt to describe his well-crafted sounds. Words like soulful, epic, haunting, rolling, deep & heavy are common on the lips of his growing following. His productions are diverse, ranging many of the different ends of the dubstep spectrum, and you can really hear that he strives to create his unique soundscapes in what whatever scope is given.

2009 looks to be a very promising year for him, with forthcoming releases on Echodub, Mindset, Formant, Surface Tension, Trillbass, Cymbstep, Substruk, DDR, Filthy Digital & DubKraft, and with many other record labels salivating over his music, it almost seems a certainty we’ll see many, many more on the horizon. Also, look for various remixes, bootlegs and other exclusives posted by him on the music forum (http://dubstepforum.com) where you can currently find a number of his tracks offered for free, sitting happily at the top of the forum.

You can also download the hexadecibel showcase mix which is comprised solely of his original material.

DJ Cure Bio:

Aufect Recordings boss, DJ Cure aka Patrik Walters is no stranger to Canada’s underground electronic music scene.

He is now running two record labels (Aufect & Pressing Issues) and DJing all across North America.

Cure started collecting records at the age of 16. It started out as an addiction to Hip Hop,
then Techno, Jungle and DNB. Originally from Toronto, He has shared the bill with industry icons such as Dieselboy, Concord Dawn, Evol Intent, John Rolodex, Kenny Ken, Ed Rush, Martyn, Capital J, Joe Nice and Headhunter to name a few.

In 2004 he landed a gig on MTV’s “Don’t try this at home” tour, opening up for Steve-o and the rest of the infamous “Jackass” crew. Around that same time he was starting to really take interest in Grime and early Dubstep, after a friend passed along a Kode 9 mixtape. When 2006 rolled around Cure had become intrigued by the future sounds of Dubstep. He joined Pressing Issues Recordings that summer as an A&R , and has just recently taken full control of the label (currently working on the 3rd vinyl release) .

In August of 2007, after feeling like he had reached his limits in Ontario, he decided to transplant to Vancouver with the intent of starting a label of his own. In early 2008 Aufect Recordings was born and Cure joins the Vancouver local Bass squad, Lighta! Crew. Many things to come from DJ Cure in 2009, stay tuned!

I'm lookin forward to listening to this I don't think I've heard many of the tracks at all in the track list.

I'm really feeling the enthusiasum from over the pond for the dubstep / what ever sound at the moment. It's infectious!

Big up Mr Booth and for all the artists in the mix.
