DJ Mujava -Township funk

Post by gkmusic » Sat Mar 28, 2009 6:07 pm

Seriously, is it just me or is this track not that impressive?

I keep getting confused when i hear all the praise this track is getting.
Firstly; i am not a hater. BUT i don't see why this track is so hyped up. Am i missing something?

It sounds really amateur-ish and sounds as if some ones just having a muck about on a drum sequencer and a few synths, unless I'm seriously missing the point.

I see no attention to detail from the track just amateur sounding drums, dodgey bass and catchy hook done by the lead, In all honesty it sounds like someones first beat on Fruitty LOL.

Unless that's the whole charm of the track or something or either DJ Mujava has already got a big following and manages to pass this stuff off.

Either way i think the track has seriously good ideas but for me the production is lacking so I don't see why it's released on such prolific label (Warp).

I am not a hater, good on DJ Mujava but I'm really confused with why this is such a hyped up beat, anyone care to explain?

good idea>good production

On an unrelated note, this tune confused the shit out of me until I realized the bass drum hits on the beat.

The drums are so annoying, I know you don't need mental beats on everything especially when you've got great lead lines but it really could have been a brilliant track with more. This endless military backbeat doesn't really fit with in the track anyway.

I just think its such a nice catchy riff, works really well on my ears anyways. There's a remix on my page with new drums ;-)...http://www.myspace.com/JAYOUDROPS

I think its the melody which is quite catchy and has a pretty unique feel

Such a grey area...

The song is so badly produced it sounds kinda good.
The real thing that gets me is that simplistic little riff, it's a hook to make the beatles jealous.
It's probably because of this people are liking it, it's the definition of soul with no technical know how, it's so fresh to the ears because it's minimalistic and not overproduced, and for people listening to a lot of electro where production was by the book but the riffs where a bit samey, I bet it was a breath of fresh air, and its rare and probably the first electronic tune to come out of a SA township and make it kinda big.
This tune has being hyped by bare people for so long coz it is so simple and upbeat, nuff said.
What goods a bloody well written song if its so technical that no-ones gonna be humming it an hour later?

im always in 2 minds about this tune. when i hear it coming in i start thinking the same thing's that everyone's saying about how shit it should be - but then by some point ill always be loving it. its the kinda sweeping low pad that does it for me.

its catchy. the production is garbage but i supose this should be a lesson for all of us. the order is good songs first, good production second.

kinda reminds em of a blockhead production or something.
I like it apart from the first 30 seconds or so, where the drums sound totally whack on their own.

So, I just listened to this again - I guess I had never heard the original before - the drums are F-ing terrible.

The Ikonica mix (the only mix I had heard until now) is dope though. Then again I am feeling all of the Ikonica stuff.
