Forsaken used it for a live set with Ben Blackmore some time last month. Not sure whether he uses it all the time.

Interesting thread. Been noticing a few Ableton users cropping up recently - mostly not big names, though. I find laptops are pretty common, but mostly with Serato installed.

I used Ableton for a recent gig in Manchester. Love the creative possibilities it affords - live re-edits, dub and glitchy FX etc. Hope to push the process further next time out.

Among the best uses of Ableton (at least I assume it was) I've heard, though, was a Luke Vibert set at Warehouse Project where he mashed together a whole eclectic bunch of things. What made it good, I think, was that you could hear him trying out crazy stuff on the fly, correcting it, trying something else etc. It wasn't that slick, but you never knew what he was going to hit you with next. And you got the feeling he didn't, either.

I've been using Ableton exclusively for many reasons...and I want to start with Serato for many of the same reasons if that makes any sense. It's apples and oranges a bit for me...Ableton is soo great for production too...and with skills so would Serato. I'm holistic...I say learn it all; all of the DJ platforms have something unique to learn from, imo. And I'm definitely still using Live for warping reggae/rocker tunes to mix in with Serato (or not). And I'll miss those amazing filters made by:

They sound great...listen to any mix of mine at all and those filters are part. I also use Ableton to make my tunes with a similar DJ template, midi control, and mix style; my boundaries are vertically meshed and blurred and that's the way we like it! The only thing that gets me annoyed is the blind faith in vinyl when so much of the time the source is audio is compromised to begin with. Cutting a dub does not automatically create fidelity/spectral richness that isn't there. It does create an aesthetic, a "warmth" partially due to no extra d/a, and a tactile performance technic (pun intended)...but it is still a very great 35mm photo of a xerox or newsprint in many cases. Stop spending money on cutting dubs and invest in some analog summing and better interfaces/converters! Then cut dubs of said great recordings.

has the apc40 come out yet? looks amazing, can't wait to get my hands on it. this year is hugely expensive to be an ableton user with the apc40, new version and max for live. I want them all!
tell me about it

max for live is going to change the world of music (for me anyway  )
it looks good, I can't use max though - I downloaded the demo and decided I couldn't be bothered to learn it all just yet, but it comes with a lot of good presets, like that step sampler for apc40 on the video - and user uploads as well... not sure how much it's going to cost. maybe something to buy in a few years after I've milked ableton 8 suite for all its resources, I'm still on live 6 now, so a lot to get used to... a few annoying changes though I've noticed, like the clear envelope tab has gone :(
