critics in dubstep?

Post by popcornseasoning »

Every artform has it's critics. they give searing reviews of an artist's works, a writer's novel, a chef's masterpiece. These critics, though generally negative and harsh, do something for the artists - they force the artists to grow, by providing a voice to speak on the listeners behalf, these critic's protect an artform from becoming stagnant.

Who here is willing to speak out against stagnation and sameness - this scene needs some critics with balls who are willing to be hated for the sake of propelling the scene forward.

This is rubbish.

Artists, on the whole, have plenty of bullshit in their lives and the world around them to kick against and force them to think on their feet, without people in their own scene adding to it.

Haters are universal - it doesn't mean they're a good thing, though.

Artists need constructive critics more than they need adoring fans.

The worse tracks a producer makes, the more respect he / she should get.

Safe.

I would have agreed with the need for professional critics until a few years ago. Now that everybody has internet access it's pretty easy to get feedback though. Forums like this do the trick much better than paid up journalists on the whole.

i wouldn't be so sure, it seems like the majority of people on the forum just love everything and never have a bad word to say about anything either, and if you say you dont like something they call you a hater.

I dunno. Everyone seems to be giving pretty honest reactions on that new Benga tunes thread.

'sexual abuse anthem'? Does that strike anyone else a slightly odd thing to say?

The guy used a vocal sample, it's not exactly a remix.
