Does Joker engineer / master his own tracks?

Post by joe muggs » Sat Apr 04, 2009 7:25 pm

I knew he was doing something special anyway but hearing them on the Corsica soundsystem last night, I had my breath taken away by how big and crisp his productions really are. Like Neptunes-style big and crisp. They sound EXPENSIVE. My friend Bashford said "it's like his tracks are engineered by Audi or something" :D :D

I saw Snares instead of Joker - gutted that they clashed but im a big Snares fan and didnt want to miss another big mash fest :D

The soundsystems in both rooms are nuts, but room 2 is especially awesome. Caught Starkey, his set was carnage.

that is the sound of hardware and good drum samples for u

tracks are usually mastered by a professional mastering engineer before they hit vinyl

if hes playing tunes off CD he may have mastered them himself but you need thousands of pounds of hardware equipment to get a master sounding amazing. its not possible out of a pc alone... someone will probably come in here and say they can do it - they honestly can't. its just one of those things.

Snares was a bit of a crusty mosh/orgy free-for-all. He's a bit slick these days, too - I preferred him when he was REALLY nihilistic and nasty.

Slugabed were amazing early on, quite incredible to hear beats so complex and broken being mixed together... . And Boxcutter was truly fucking brilliant, lovely guy too.

All about dubstudio, sent some bits to get cut and Henry worked wonders. Sounded so much better, and my mate did the same and had the same response, just crispness. possibly what you get from using propper dubs, but i dunno

Joker uses outboard compression i believe, hence why it sounds so strong. but i still think it can be done with digital compression too!

You're a liar blackdown,
Nothing competes with analogue, EVER!
I've only ever got 10" acertate, is there a big difference between the quality of 10" 12"?

I've been debating whether or not to take the jump and get an outboard compressor but I've never used one before, supposedly they're the nuts though

12 can be louder as more space for wider grooves, and more acetate to stink out ure record bag with! :D :D :D
