Hit the nail on the head there.
Yeah fair play salute them, but not in such a lame way.

Last thing I would want if I ever did anything noteworthy would be to be remembered in such a way.

i don't really have a problem with patriotism as such, in essence it's harmless but it all depends what people do with it.

personally, i don't see the point, or feel the need, to take pride in other people's achievements....

Step the fuck BACK. She's on my wall and I officially have first dibs on her.

As long as Goldie doesn't want another go on her anyway.

I'm not arguing with Goldie.

Have you seen it? I have nothing against people commemorating the brave work fireman do but jesus fucking christ, they put their lives in danger for us, the least the person could do is making the piece is make it look like it wasn't painted and constructed by a kid at the rainbow club.

I feel no more pride in being british than I do shame. It was just an accident of birth.

Im scottish born and bred and will happily support the national football team, though that's about as far as my patriotism goes really. The fact that I grew up on a particular lump of earth and rock that now has a name doesn't make me feel any more special than someone else who grew up on a another lump of rock and earth with a different name.As for celebrating particular aspects of our culture as being uniquely British, that's a sticky one.Our culture has been influenced and mutated over the centuries by sucessive waves of immigration and influences and ideas we picked up[stole]
when we were building our empire. For example morris dancing is thought be derived from moorish music and dance that the returning crusaders brought back with them . I couldn't even define what British culture is let alone celebrate it.
As for that franklin mint firemens memorial plate statuette thingy, how tacky is that?.That's not a celebration of their courage and bravery, just a mass produced, hideously ugly attempt to cash in on a terrible tragedy.

I have a sort of liberal-patriotic approach to it. I'm proud to be English, and I think every culture/nationality should take a light-hearted approach to the matter. Different cultures=Different things=Interesting. Let's just pass the blunt, have a bubble, and talk about what we do different from eachother.

Also, I purposefully give American birds a bit of cockney and it makes em' moist. They love it.
