best digital DJ apps?
I know it's DJ not production but it still seems like the closest forum for the question. I've got Ableton Live but there are some things about the UI I'm not thrilled about. Do people use Traktor or Serato instead? Thoughts?
What bugs me about Ableton is I'll often have beats that loop properly, when I'm figuring out their BPMs, but when I loop them on top of other stuff, I'll have two tracks that both are at the right BPM, but lining them up to start on the same beat is way too much effort. It's easier in Traktor, Traktor is set up to make nudging beats easy and analog the way it is with actual records, but Traktor requires two sound cards (if I remember right), so I just said screw that and went with Ableton.

You can get Traktor Scratch Duo now which has the Audio 4 soundcard which is just 4 ins and outs instead 8 ins and outs on the audio 8.
You can still plug in two Turntables or CDJ's where as with the Audio 8 you could plug it up to 4 decks at once.
Traktor Scratch Duo is probably the best value on the market right now for digital dj systems.

Not so bad, I've known peeps to dig out a handsome bargain on it as seperate purchases and there's bound to be some bargain packages gwan in teh great big interwebium. Or use the Audio 4 instead?nowaysj wrote:Whats the full price for this? Pretty high isn't it?Caeraphym wrote:Traktor Scratch Pro through an Audio 8, the way NI intended.
How much is a chiropracter after lugging round crates of vinyl for 15 years?

I use Ableton... but mainly cos I also use it to produce my tracks and perform live. I am all about consolidation these days. Plus, I don't go out an DJ very often anyway- I have a monthly show on Sub.FM, but any gigs I have, I play live...
...So if I were getting into it from a purely DJ standpoint, I would go for Traktor for sure. Ableton can do some rudeboy shit once you have everything locked, but that isn't a priority for most people... usually having a clean interface, great controls, and intuitive workflow suffice.
