notch wrote:People still listen to drum and bass?? I think it's just because drum and bass, you have a lot more drum fills and other rather annoying sounds throughout the song.... Dubstep is pretty striped down as far as the number of traks that are in the tune on average.. Maybe it's cause drum and bass is faster and has an higher bpm we precieve the production value as harder.. Can I remind you that in terms of how long the genre has been around compared to drum and bass dubstep has still has not peaked at all, its still a baby relatively speaking.. Personally i can't stand drum and bass it gives me a head ache its way to fast.. :o
BOXCUTTER has some amazing production..

dude, perfect example... Philly blows my mind. :)

Also TRG, he has got some serious game.

Despite people likening the two genres I think that is BS... dub is about what is not in track, with small stabs here and there, effective use of atmos etc.

DNB is rooted in happy hardcore, more ravey origins. Completely different mindsets when it comes to production. :)

(my opinion btw, may not be how others perceive it)

Based on the DnB artists listed here, I guess disma would be more into the darkside dubstep like excision etc... which is an even younger dubgenre. But either way, I think the quality is there, it just focuses on different things.

so no tunes then?

These drum and bass producers i speak of have hopped in and out of dubstep ... and done a fucking good job of it.. (beautiful bass texture, crystal clear drum hits which maintain quality no matter how loud.. and it all sits perfectly)

Are you trolling son? Seriously, no one on hear gives a fuck enough to try to convince you of anything. If you want to jump on the dubstep bandwagon? Fine, welcome aboard but dnb troops are thinning. If you love dnb so much, then just listen to that and be content with it. I don't give a flying fuck tbh.

Yeh man, that sounds awsome!

Could anyone recommend some more uplifting stuff?
More organic sounds...?

I heard a tune ... The Widdler - Lady dub (HD 4000) remix.. hear it here: http://www.myspace.com/widdlemethis

Anything like that? Positive bass lines and r&b/chipmunk vocals...

Thanks for the recommendations, take it easy all

You love to point out when you think someone is rude don't you? You want rude? Why don't you mind your own business? I already wasted my time looking at this thread so I might as well waste a few more seconds for a fuck off message. And for you, why don't you lighten up a bit? Rarely does this forum get serious so why do you have to go there?

Why don't you produce some amazing dubstep or drum and bass or I say STFU.. This is the DUBSTEP forum.. your not on DOA.. dubstep is not supposed to be "pretty", its filth son..
Take your pretty ass back over to Dogs on Acid to rant about how much better drum and bass is better then Dubstep.. nuff said.. Dubstep is the new sheriff in town..
ABLETON LIVE...

I was slightly annoyed reading this guys posts ok? Did you read the thread or just the "rude" posts? Did the subtle jabs go over your head? I don't understand why you are singling me out? Because now you too are annoying me.

disma wrote:Hey all, i've been producing drum and bass aswell as dub step for a couple of years now. And it seems alot more effort is put in to get a good drum and bass sound... rather than a dubstep tune...

Can someone convince me otherwise?
While it is true that nu skool d'n'b is heavily produced, some dubstep is equally well produced.

Excision has already been mentioned, but truly his tunes are ridiculously well produced (imo) :)

Do you not rate Skream or Digital Mystik's productions?

Already pointed out, but dubstep has more space than d'n'b, thus things don't need to be so tight to sound good. An example of this would be the use of delay & reverb. In d'n'b, the only part that these effects could be used as the focal point of the tune would be in breakdowns and for pads.

Having been into dubstep for the past 2.5 years, I find that even the best producers create good tracks and bad tracks. You're deluding yourself if you think the general level of production is higher in d'n'b, because there are plenty of shit producers too.

To be honest, every genre has both good and bad producers. There are pop producers who kill most d'n'b heads in an instant! (although I can't name any cuz I don't follow who's hot in pop etc haha!) :)

To rate music simply on its technical production aspects alone is folly. Using Pendulum as an example.................... Their last album was perfectly produced, yet was still completely, utterly, abismally, horribly fucking, 'need to kill themselves' shite.

Some music recorded before hifi digital sounds great, even if the recordings weren't perfect. Sometimes the rough sounds add to the vibe that make music so enjoyable (like Burial and most old skool jungle)! :)

since when is dubstep been about perfect production? dubstep is more about (should be some producers don't realise this i think) good ideas and innovating somoething a lot of dnb has forgot about.

who cares as long as it is a decent production level, ideas are far more important.
