going to catch his live show tonite, pretty stoked hopefully it's a better night than what you described here. The venue for tonite is super sick + funktion 1 sound is unbeatable so off to a good start. damn 2 1/2hr drive each way would've ruined my night alone :/

Well are you surprised it sucked?

He isn't a good bass player

His version of a "live pa" isn't ground breaking or anything.

Its your fault you got your hopes up.

Regardless... don't bitch about how long a live pa set is, most don't go longer than an hour.

rusko live is a complete joke, something inside me died when I saw him whip out the guitar at bloc. people need to stop booking this act and get him back djin again as opinions and tastes aside his dj sets are heavy heavy crowd pleasers.

I dunno man. I just saw Rusko here in Edmonton, And i fuckin loved it. Yah the bass was a bit lame, but he sounded sick on the system here at The Starlite Room. We get wicked acts come through here, and He was one of the best ive seen. I just saw DZ a coupe weeks ago, and for the dubstep that was bein played, rusko killllled it!!!
Just my opinion!!!

Truthfully, even on the bad days, dubstep is still mad siiiiiiiiiick.

live PA's (even with only a laptop) get paid way better than dj gigs. simple as.... as a "professional" musician you can't blame him, guy has to somehow earn his living and have some savings for the future...

Rusko is a good producer, not a good DJ.

I for one was never a fan of Rusko but I give him credit for that performance. yeah sound could've been better but I gotta show the dude love for that. I watched from the side and my man was doing a lot all at once. takes a lot to do all that and play a bass on cue, like that. as for his bass playing? he was def playing it instead of just using 1 string or two. it wasnt a lazy act at all, prob better as a DJ.

like I said "not a fan" which is why I left before he finished. but it was a lot better than I expected. I'll post some links to the vids that I recorded once I upload em.

True say I've not seen him play out for a while so he may have improved, but just cross-fading and then dropping tunes for an hour (IMO) doesn't make you a good DJ. He is a sick producer though.

I dont think I could have handled a rusko "live" set after having caught bass clef the same weekend at bloc. That man just fucking knows. Actually the sickest goddam performances...

Cannot be straightened, with bass clef himself parading around stage smashing the living shit out of a cow bell? :D

Yes please.

I dunno...

I was at the show, had myself one helluva time. Besides being one of the few live dubstep experiences, I was quite surprised and impressed by Rusko... my opinion of him prior to his set was that I sort of "got" his sound. Hearing just a few tunes one can decipher his wobble formula, for better or for worse.

The aspect of the performance I enjoyed was in fact the live bass + MC. Obviously, Rod Aslan fucking tears it but as an instrumental performer myself, it was kind of a breath of fresh air in terms of normal DJing. I respected his Ableton set with the bass plugin (although Rusko never really went beyond strumming the roots of his basslines) amidst the usual DJing experience.

Yeah, the sound was not as good as it could've been, but I still managed to get hard. Had a great time. Big ups

This right here is the reason why it is excellent that Rusko is doing what he is doing. He could SO easily play the "heavy heavy crowd pleasers" that a certain section of fans demand, as he is a technically outstanding DJ with great rapport with his crowd etc, and rinse his in-the-moment celebrity for all it's worth with wobble anthem set after wobble anthem set. But he doesn't - he's chosen to do something else, and expand his potential, at the risk of alienating the people who just want to hear him do "stuff like that Fabric CD". He does far more than "just a laptop set" - I've listened to the recording of the Bloc set, and you can hear how he is reworking tracks, doing a proper live mix, dub style, and generally getting seriously involved with the performance. I hope he continues this, and continues expanding on it. So it might not be the most subtle or innovative production in the world compared to, say, Joker or Pinch or Shackleton - it doesn't have to be one or the other. ADVANCE IN ALL DIRECTIONS!
