That record changed everything for pop music and had Brian Wilson not gone totally mad there would have been several more lps of that quality.
Without Pet Sounds there would be no Sergeant Pepper as Macca fully admitted to copying the style wholesale. It was one of the first lps to take more than a week or two to record - the fact it was all stuffed into an 8 track is nothing short of astounding! Following that there was Good Vibrations which was the first 6 minute single - and it got to number 1 everywhere with a hugely complicated arrangement no one thought would work. gah I could go on ... I really used to hate them so if you are ****** you really owe it to the production gods in the sky to hear it.
I like shitloads of stuff from Jazz to Death metal - but Pet Sounds made me realise what good production can do!
