In what sense do you mean 'Futuristic'? Do you have an example of the vibe you are talking about?q_steppa wrote:i love futuristic vibes in me tunes, distance has knocked it on the head imo.
Again, an example would be nice so someone precisely could point out what you could do. Anyway, sometimes when I want to achieve a special sound or a special vibe with a sample, I twist and modulate it into a whole new sound in Ultrabeat (since I use Logic). I experiment with different effects and try to use the sample in different ways and correlations.q_steppa wrote:how do u guys get futuristic sounds and samples? i have made a few samples out of transformers but otherwise im having difficulty finding samples
Hope this helps.
futuristic,, like at the beginning of cyclops or skeleton grin by distance, there is just this real futuristic vibe. sort of everything has a sharp edge and everything just feeels robotic and mechanical. its hard to describe the vibe, but cyclops and skeleton grin are reall good examples. also syria by bulletproof is sick. usually neurofunk is futuristic sounding aswel..

I always ask my yet-to-be-born-son for samples and sounds. He often goes to the park in 2378 ands samples sounds for me. He will then send them back, it happens almost instantly! You really should look into this bro!

On a more serieus note, distance rules! If your looking for those type of sounds, look around on the net. There's a few free vsti's with sick ass cyborg / robotic sounds. I will look them up later, can't now.

It's difficult for anyone to tell you how to create the type of sounds that are in your head. I'm afraid it's the pain-staking process of experimentation, trial and error.
Listen to tracks that yer feeling and pick up on techniques used and take them in yer own direction : )

Synths and effects can be used in two ways: the boring standard way, ie making lead, pads, basses and arps etc, or the funky as shit other way! I'd recommend sitting down with your synth of choice, and really pushing its ability to make random sounds. (LFOs & filters will be useful here, as will esotoric synthesis types with unuasual parameters to modulate).
Once you have created a few random sounds, whether they be short blips 'n' blops or longer things, either save the patch or bounce down some wavs.
Now you have your source material, start on making a tune using your sounds and drums only as your source material. Put effects on your random sounds to make them different again, and to generally take things to the next level!
If you bounced down wavs, import your sounds into a audio editor and chop shit up! Swap bits around, reverse bits and genrally go crazy
Rebounce your sound, and load it up into a sampler in your music project.
Either continue mangling it with modulated filters or shove some effects on it.
Remember to automate effects parameters. Some really cool sounds can be got from pushing phazers, flangers, reverbs, delays and bit crushers to the extreme. If this gets too cpu intensive, bounce down the sound and reimport it once again!
Finally, add some instruments, vocals, pads, basses and leads etc to fill in the gaps between your effects and drums.
Voila!
Or you could pay me £50 a day to do this for you
