non-american hiphop

Post by indostylez » Tue Oct 10, 2006 3:00 am

havent been bothered listening to much american hiphop right now as its gone pretty fucked up

i've been listening to some hiphop in other lingos
if you havent heard any.. these are a few artists i've listened to:

.french hiphop (some of the big names)
IAM
saian supa crew
NTM
mc solaar
rhoff
booba

.latin hiphop (not too educated on this)
marcelo D2
orishas

been meaning to check out some japanese hiphop as i've heard some on dj krush's albums which were good

if anyone has any other suggestions - please post them up !!

IAM
NTM

orishas

these are the masters in their style!!

dj krush is wicked aswell, i got a cd of him lying around here but i couldn't tell you which one even if my life depended on it.

phi life cypher
killa kela
dupa styles
SOME infinite livez, do not buy this without knowing it cause you might be really dissapointed
unsung heroes
mark b
AIM
...

don't know too much of belgian hip hop except for a few names like
dysfunktional & damented
brick 9000 (label)
that guy from the hop (not actually the name)
but i wouldn't know what to check, i got only one belgian hip hop record, being on city kingz
it has a pretty nice dnb track on it aswell, which surprised me because at the time the record came out even concrete dnb producers weren't getting signed on labels

On a uk tip im still lovin the first Lewis Parker release and Klashnekoffs Sagas...also. With the poor state of some US hip-hop i like diggin in the past for older US gems, guys like Kool G Rap would bury some of the modern MCs!

Was waitin' for someone to say that!!Roots Manuva is tighter than a lot of US rappers these days. And his dubbed-out style takes me back to the days of BDP,Fu Shnickens and Das EFX in some ways.By far one of my favourite MCs of all time.

Old skool and indie UK:
Ruthless Rap Assassins/Kermit in Black Grape
MC Tunes
Slick Rick
Asher D(the original "Raggamuffin Hip-Hop"!)

New skool UK(okay,so not strictly hip-hop):
Tor(on the reals...that girl is tight!)
Jammer
Dizzee Rascal
Spaceape
10Shott/Vicious Circle
Lady Sovereign
The Streets
Dynamite MC
Nicky Spesh
M.I.A.

From the US,

Clipse from Virginia - hands down, they have the tightest flows I've heard.

Kool Keith can be great when he's focused.
Pre-"Gnarles Barkley" Cee-Lo Green from the Goodie Mob.
Cool Breeze from Atlanta

Kardinall Offishall of the Rascals from Toronto.

just off the top of my head

the best uk hip hop i've heard in years is:
http://www.myspace.com/fbcfabricandreindeer

the production skills alone separates them from nearly everything else i've heard. reindeer is nice as well.

check out shake the hand, soulsuck! big tunes
