Southampton dubstep scene? (uk)

Post by krusade » Wed Mar 18, 2009 10:26 pm

So, for educational purposes, I'll be up and going to southampton over the next few months. At the moment anything southeast of canterbury (I live in dover) seems to get the "Wtf is dubstep? a new ciara song?".

So if everyones from or around the southampton area could let me know the current situation.

Much appreciated <3

yo

There's a few nights going in Southampton. Longest running and most regular event/night is called 'One Forty' at The Rhino Club on the first Thursday of every month - next one being April 2nd. Obviously. Also a night called 'Subset' at the Soul Cellar which is every couple months now I think, not too sure when the next one is. These 2 nights are your best bet for sound systems and DJ's, apart from hearing the odd dubstep tune/set played at a drum and bass night around town.
UndergroundSoundz on SUB.FM every other Monday 10pm - Midnight GMT

We're getting a bit of a scene in Southampton atm. Appleblim played last week (big up Subset, great booking, sick system), Coki the week before. Joker is playing next monday, and Skream in a months time. Also RSD, Phaeleh, + Time are coming across soon!

Massive respect to all those involved in putting these nights on. Soul Cellar, Rhino, and Unit (for Subset, 140, and Decibel/Transition respectively) seem to be the places to go. Djsoc are hosting Room 2 @ The Cube when High Contrast & Sub Focus come down on the 21st May, going to be puur dubstep finishing with jungle from myself, Jah Pat, Bedlam, and a couple of others.

Big tings a gwan in Southampton.

Yes yes! i help organize the transition event @ Unit. Weekly Dubstep and dnb on monday nights,

http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=83602 - We have Joker on Monday April 27th @ Unit, shortly followed on may 11th by RSD, Phaeleh and TIME!!!! Hope to see as many heads down for these events as possible!
It's good to see alot of the promoters stepping up with the dubstep bookings, i believe we may say caspa and rusko in southampton this summer aswell...... The best thing recently is that some venues are finally getting late licensees, such Ed Rush & Skream at rhino will be open till 5am - This is LONG overdue......

http://www.myspace.com/asadubstep - forthcoming EP coming on echodub that has been receiving support from Rob booth, phaeleh, Time, the widdler and Mary anne hobbs i believe......

southampton/hampshire based producers leave your myspace URL or something, it's all about community........

Hey man, bit outside southampton, But I run nights down the road in Winchester!

We put on the Llama Llounge @ the Railway Inn, the only long running regular night of Underground dance music (Electronica, Dubstep, Breaks as well as a little experimental post rock from time to time!) being a dubstep freak myself there's always some dubstep on the bill although it's not a purely dubstep night.

I am however starting up a new night, "Dubmission" at the arts school union which will be a Dubstep only night, running by Llama Llounge rules (no MC's, no Rewinds, no bad vibes)

other than that there's System 8 and Obease Beats, both of which put on some dubstep.

Most of the nights I've been to in Southampton have been pretty good fun and well run, and i try and make it out in soton whenever I can!
