Poll: Hardware or Software

Post by lhd » Sat Apr 25, 2009 5:22 am

Your preference, maybe what you like to use and why(F.A.B-feature, advantage, benefit)

I like soft synths b/c I'm new and I need to be able to draw to edit at the very least. I'm not sure if you can record with hardware as midi and edit the note the way you can with vst's or not.
I use Live, Reason, FM8 and Rapture. I'm dying to get my paws on the new Maschine from NI though.

I have some hardware left (MPC and SP) but I just use softsyths and such.

I like the portability and doing everything in the box, midi, etc

I think (hope) the APC40 and Maschine (and to a lesser extent automap on novation controllers) are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what the future holds for soft/hard hybrids.

I really hate using a computer keyboard and mouse as the primary tools for making music. I've got a padkontrol (love it) and an mpk, but still, most of the time left hand in the claw over ctrl alt and shift, right index finger clicking away... :(
I agree to use a mixture, but i have to say the reason i liked hardware was because it didnt have the problems that come with software. I like them seperate, thats why i am going to shy away from things like the maschine.

I would rather just make my own custom patch to control a midi device anyway.

I love hardware. I love software. When used together brilliant, but combining them into one piece, i haven't been impressed yet.

Wheres the poll to vote?

Software any day.

Some types of synthesis can't be done on hardware, whilst analogue modelled softsynths sound scarily accurate...

My 2 cents worth anyway.. :)

A computer is hardware.

And most synths, samplers, and the like run on proprietary software.

I don't care if they do or they don't, but they don't :)
Which is why Arturia, Native Instruments, Waves et al are making money from selling 'modelled' software....
